I got this bike for my son's 2nd birthday and it is great! I was worried that it might be too big, because the box says 2 1/2 to 5, but with the seat down all the way it works. He's an average size boy and his feet reach. It seems to be lighter than my friends little boy "Strider" bike, so that's a plus too. It looks to be very well made, it's a Radio Flyer so I'm not worried about durability. The price is much more reasonable than the "Strider". Overall I'm very happy with this purchase.

I get that this isn't a $90 Strider. But having put one of those together recently, versus what I dealt with putting this one together... well Radio Flyer could have made theirs a little better without a ton of extra effort or cost.

Ultimately, as a balance bike it's going to work very well. So it's probably closer to a 4 on value and a 2-3 on assembly.

As for why I dinged it, well the alignment of handlebars and wheel while tightening it is cumbersome at best, ridiculous at worst. Strider has this right, you slip the steerer tube from the fork and the shaft from the handlbars together and put a pin through them. That way it will always be 100% straight. Then when you tighten it down you can simply worry about only fastening the parts together. This bike needs 4 hands to be done right and a ratchet set on top of that. You have to hold the fork and handlebars tightly together while turning two bolts and not allowing the handlebars and fork to separate and become loose in the headtube, or have them twist and become misaligned.

Not a great design there guys.

Once I got it in place it was fine and the bike is very good for what it was meant for. I just wish some extra effort was put in place for alignment and adjustment. Really unnecessarily complex for the ONLY thing that has to be done to put the bike together.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This bike is a great learning tool. I gave it to my grandson, who just turned 4, and he was able to balance for a few seconds the first time he used it. On a flat surface it rolls nicely, but doesnt go so fast that he can't stop with foot power. I was surprised to find that his brother, who is 7, liked it even more than he did. He never got the knack of riding a bike without training wheels, but with this, he gets the idea and is learning to balance himself. This went together easily, but a wrench is not included. It is sturdy and brightly painted and has a bell. The seat also adjusts without any special tools, so the boys can take turns.

Below is my original review (before the item had even arrived)... I've since noticed that the actual seller varies from one day to the next -- and some of them jack up the price for no apparent reason. So be mindful of that before you click "buy."

As for the bike itself, my daughter (almost 3) loves it. Light but sturdy, VERY little assembly required, and the seat height is easily adjustable. I'm very glad I went with this item.

ORIGINAL REVIEW

I've been keeping my eye on this item for a few weeks now, in anticipation of Christmas... I just refreshed the page, and instead of being around $40 now it's over $80!

Here's a lesson on supply and demand for the seller: you're not the only one selling this bike. See the name printed on it? Radio Flyer? Yep, they have a website too. Wanna guess how much it is over there?

The front handle is impossible to stabilize. No matter how hard I have tightened (and you are not supposed to tighten it beyond a limit), the handle keeps moving. Do yourself a favor and get an assembled one or some other design.

This is adequately constructed, though I have seen balance bikes with a better finish and components in my local bike shop. However, this will do the job for my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter to get used to balancing herself.

This has to be assembled, so unless you're handy or know someone who is (like I do), then it may make more sense to buy from a bike store, which will sell you something fully assembled. The person who assembled this for me said it was easy to do so, but then again he can assemble anything, even without any directions. Most of the negative comments on this product deal with assembly issues rather than the quality of the product itself.

For the price, the materials and design seem quite nice. Seem that way. Unlike some of the other parents who reviewed this bike, I wasn't able to get the bolt even tight enough to keep the handlebars from easily turning independently of the front wheel, and that's with enough force to to peel metal shavings from the bolt.

The instructions have a warning not to tighten the bolt so much that the threads strip. Seems the manufacturers are just covering their backsides, knowing that they're producing a nonfunctional product.
