Sturdy, Fun Trike with Unecessary Features,

This review is from: Radio Flyer Ultimate Canopy Steer & Stroll Trike (Toy)
My son received this trike as a Christmas present from his grandparents. He is only 14 months old, but big for his age, in any case he cannot pedal yet. The best features of the trike are that it is easy for Mom or Dad to steer, it has a seat strap, and its just plain cooler than going for a walk in a stroller. My son loves it and anytime he gets a peek of it he points to it and squeals, if we don't let him ride it he gets upset. He feels like a big boy, especially since he always sees the older kids in our neighborhood on their bikes. The features you can live without include the sun shade, which I haven't noticed actually blocking any sun, and the cup holder which doesn't really work out that well, the slightest turn and the drink tips and spills. This only detracts slightly from the overall impression of the trike, but you could save some money by buying the model without the useless sunshade. The seat doesn't seem adequate for a five year old, which is the age the trike is supposed to be used until. I don't think we'll use it much past three years, but all in all it is a sturdy little trike and my son loves it.

Disappointed for the Money,
This review is from: Radio Flyer Ultimate Canopy Steer & Stroll Trike (Toy)
This item is ok . . . maybe it's just me, but we have had some issues with it. It was ok at first (age 1), because my son couldn't reach the pedals, and his feet just kind of dangled. But as he got a little older, he always seemed at a loss with what to do with his feet. (There's nowhere to rest them.) He would try to rest them on the pedals, and inevitably jam them with his foot. Now he can reach the pedals (age 2), but hasn't mastered them yet. But his feet are dragging the ground. I guess I can raise the seat up, but this still won't solve his dangling problem. Secondly, the canopy and cup holder are useless, and our bike doesn't steer particularly straight, even though we have tried to correct this. My sister's son is same age as mine, and she has the same problems. It is very cute, and we always get compliments on it, but is not nearly as functional. Wish I had gotten something else.

Overall it is a great product. Thank you guys for the reviews.
Pro: 1) trike and parts are very sturdy. 2) seat is adjustable, useful as your kids grow bigger. 3) color is wonderful. 4) bi-pilot system feels great. Con: 1) attentions are needed to assembly, e.g. you need to be VERY careful on installing tyres to their correct sides, because there is no remedy if you put wrong. 2) you need to have strong fingers to remove the pull handle. 3) the canopy is of no use. 4) need to mark your trike to separate from others who have the same trike. :D Suggestions: The best way to assembly is first to layout the parts on the ground to their relative location, and then assembly them. Enjoy!

Kettler Quality, For HALF the price!!,

My deprived 3 year old finally got a trike this Xmas. The reason it took us so long to buy her one? I wanted to buy the $150 Kettler and my husband wanted to buy the same Radio Flyer trike he had when he was a kid. (which is so tippy and scary!) This trike was our compromise. It has the same features and quality construction of the Kettler- air tires, freewheel steering, parent steering with handlebar, molded full back seat, anti tip over technology, and a little bucket with a lid. It rides like a dream, pushes like a dream, and was easy to put together. Watch Amazon at Christmastime for unbelievable deals. I'm pretty sure I paid half of the price listed now. It was like stealing, really. I'm so glad I saved $115. I don't regret not buying the other trike at all, and I always want the nicest of everything. I feel like I got it in this trike. Did I mention it came with a bell too? I think Kettler charges an extra ten bucks for one of those! The canopy isn't worthless, if she's facing the right direction it is useful. But it also isn't a huge buying point. But the air tires are. My friend bought the step down from this without the canopy and it is worth it to spring for the air tires. I can't say how young you could use this trike, but it is definitely for bigger kids, 2-3 yrs. I would use one of those mini trikes until then. (And plan to with my 5 mo old, this kid won't be so deprived!) Happy trikin'!

This bike is great! My only word of warning is to be careful when the kids want to turn the steering wheel. My husband was pushing our 3 year old daughter and she wanted to go one way and he the other. The gears in the steering mechanism broke. However, we were able to remove the cap and turn the gear around to use the other side and it is as good as new. I plan to contact Radio Flyer and see if I can buy a spare gear. I do not think we would have had the problem if just our 16 month old son rode, but our daughter loves to ride little brother's bike!

Great bike but...,
This review is from: Radio Flyer Ultimate Canopy Steer & Stroll Trike (Toy)
This bike is wonderful. I love the fact that you can stear it. But, paying more for the bike with the canopy is just a waist of money. I didn't believe the other reviews, but they were right. It sounds nice but it doesn't really do any good and I couldn't see him on the bike when it was up so i left the shade down most of the time. Great bike but I would get the cheaper one without the shade. It'll save you about 20 bucks.

We just gave this tricycle to our daughter for her 2nd birthday and she loves it. It is well-made and lots of fun. It is very easy to control the steering with the parent steering bar. She loves to be pushed on her tricycle while her feet freewheel on the pedals. The bell is a hit along with the cargo area where she puts some of her stuffed animals. I do wonder if the tires have enough air in them. They seem a tiny bit soft and there were no instructions about filling them. Also, I question whether the canopy would survive if a strong toddler pulled on it a lot. Our daughter is not very rough with her toys, so I don't see this as a problem. Overall, this is a GREAT first tricycle and I would recommend it to anyone. It is a reasonable price compared to other trikes with adult push bars and a lot of fun for a toddler.

I bought this for our daughter's 2nd birthday, but we went ahead & put it together a month or so early. She loves it. She is a big girl for her age, so she can reach the peddles, but she hasn't figured out how to peddle yet. The steering bar for parents is nice, but even when properly attached, it seems like it wiggles abit & the bar frame is a bit wobbly. The sun canopy really is nothing special, we decided to leave it off since it doesn't really protect from the sun at all. It's a flat shade that doesn't curve or offer shade from any sides, so it's kinda pointless. Other than that though, this model does have a nice upgrade from the base model (w/out the sunshade) because it also has larger air-filled tires. My 6 yr old actually loves riding this tricycle. The assembly was a nightmare though.....the directions show diagrams only w/no written directions, they were confusing & terrible. Give yourself plenty of time to put it together. In the long run, it's a great learning tricycle, once you get past the headache of assembly.

I really like this toy. It was a little difficult to assemble. I did have help from a college student who was visiting thankfully. The directions could be a little more informative. We almost packed it up and took it back. This will be perfect for the beach and boardwalk. It saves your back, teaches steering, and attracts a lot of attention. People think it is so cute. The other review was correct the visor does nothing. We use it at night and in the morning or indoors. At $84 dollars and some change it was a tough pill to swollow, but well worth it. I hope I can hand it down.
Thanks college student/niece olivia's mom

Disappointing,

We received this tricycle as a gift for our two-year old, who is now 3 and a half. Even though we found it difficult to steer from the back, it was great for her at first -- she enjoyed riding as we pushed and she LOVED the basket in the back. However, once she had the coordination and the length in her legs to push, this trike proved to be a serious dud. It barely has any torque (if that's the right term); the pedals slip all over the place. She's pedaling, but she's not getting anywhere. At first we thought maybe she just needed more practice, but when we saw her on friends' trikes, it became obvious that it's this product.
