30 Songs For A Song,
By AvidOldiesCollector (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Radio Gold, Volume Two (Audio CD)
I doubt if you can find a better deal than this. one of the early series to emanate from Ace of London, the premier distributor of golden oldies. Of the 30 selections included, only two were non-charters (Gene Pitney's Nobody Needs Your Love [Like I Do] and Hippy Hippy Shake by Chan Romero), although in the latter case at least you get to hear the original version done in 1959 by Romero on the Del Fi label - some five years before The Swinging Blue Jeans recorded their almost exact hit copy.
Numerous classics abound in the compilation, including Long Tall Sally, Runaway, Alley Oop, and Louie Louie, but while these, and most of the others, are also available on countless other compilations, here you will also discover the not-so-easy to find original rendition of Alone - a # 18 Billboard Pop Top 100 for The Shepherd Sisters in 1957, seven years before The Four Seasons had their hit, the rocking Ernie Fields & His Orchestra's performance of the Glenn Miller staple In The Mood (# 4 Billboard Pop Hot 100 and # 7 R&B in 1959), and I'm Gonna Knock On Your Door which Eddie Hodges took to # 12 Hot 100 in 1961. As always with Ace the sound reproduction is impeccable and you get informative liner notes.

ACE comes through as usual except for the linear notes which don't exsist. I knew this before ordering but still a dissapointment. CD sounds great as ACE continues excellancy. I'm giving 3 stars for lack of linear notes.
