5.0 out of 5 stars Great cd!
I am not terribly familiar with Junkie XL except for the song "Billyclub" (I think that is the name of it) from a few years ago. I wasn't too terribly impressed by what I heard. 2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
I've been a fan of Junkie XL since 'Saturday Teenage Kick in 1998' and I was very disappointed by this album. This is Junkie XL going mainstream, by forgetting the music that made them great and opting instead for a more pop sound. It doesn't work. With a few exeptions 'Access To The Excess', 'Angels' this album isn't worth listening too, and even the best tracks on here...

I am not terribly familiar with Junkie XL except for the song "Billyclub" (I think that is the name of it) from a few years ago. I wasn't too terribly impressed by what I heard. When late last year I heard that former Republica singer Saffron was going to sing on some of the songs on the Junkie XL album, my curiousity was piqued. I absolutely loved Republica when they first came out (hated their second album "Speed Ballads"). I decided to buy the new Junkie XL cd today. I was also psyched to see that The Cure's Robert Smith and Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan each contributes to a song on the album ("Reload" and "PerfectBlueSky"). I personally love "Radio JXL". The album was chockful of danceable techno beats and melodic vocals. The songs that Saffron contributes her vocals to eerily reminds me of Republica's music. It was great hearing her again for the first time in a few years. I particularly loved the songs that Saffron sang on "Crusher", "Spirits", and "BeautyNeverFades". I absolutely loved the song that Robert Smith sings on "PerfectBlueSky". I thought it was very interesting to listen to his unique vocals set to a different sound. Another favorite track of mine is "Angels" which legendary synth-pop godfather Gary Neuman contributes his vocals to the song. The song is very catchy and upbeat. I enjoyed all of the songs except for the Elvis Presley remix "A Little Less Conversation". Never liked the original version, didn't like the remix version even more so. Plus it sounded out of place on the cd for me. The second cd was awesome as well. I was somewhat worried that it would be a pretty useless cd but the music turned out to be just as good. I really enjoyed "Radio JXL". It is a good mixture of techno and rock music.

I had only heard the Legacy track off of Paul Oakenfold's Great Wall Album. I then saw this CD at my local music store and decided to give it a try. I was blown away by Tennis. This track is so good and it puts you in a relax mood. The more I think about it, he should have put it on the AM CD. The AM CD was my favorite. Chilled, Casio, Angel, and Dub Zilla are all excellent tracks to bring the night to an end. I also can't stop listening to Perfect Blue Sky which features Robert Smith. Robert Smith just adds to the effect of the great song. He has always had such a good voice and it shines even more on this track. All together Junkie XL did a good job of making this album. I love the name of the album as well. Can't see what he comes out with next.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is brilliant!!, September 29, 2005
This review is from: Radio JXL: A Broadcast From Computer Hell Cabin (Audio CD)
When I first bought this CD I wasnt too familiar with JXL's own production. Only remixes he had done of other artists. What attracted me to the album was first watching "The UMF Experience", a sort of documentary on the closing event of the Winter Music Conference in Miami FL thats held every year. I had watched and really liked the 2 songs of his played on the program (Breezer and Beauty Never Fades...the program also brought me to attend UMF 2005 but thats another story). From the moment I heard the radio jingles on the Intro I was hooked. In my opinion the man is a musical genius. 3 PM is his own take on daytime radio and very interesting. Even if you arent into elcetronica I would think Crusher, Reload, Perfect Ble Sky and Access to the Excess are worth checking out. 3 AM is what I'm all about (being an Electronic Dance Music DJ myself). I could listen to this disc over and over and not get tired of it. From the ambience of Chilled...to the flight of Breezer..to the slam of Nudge and Beauty Never Fades. Together both CD's combine to make what I think is one of the best pieces of music ever made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, April 11, 2004

This review is from: Radio JXL: A Broadcast From Computer Hell Cabin (Audio CD)
Junkie XL is one amazing producer and he lets his talents shine on "A Broadcast from Computer Hell." The first disc starts off with one of the best tracks on the album; "Tennis" It then moves on to some very catchy and great tracks That never seem to get old. By midway, "PerfectBlueSky" comes on with a beautiful melody accompanied by an amazing vocalist; Robert Smith. The 3PM cd even includes an Elvis Remix!

The second CD; "3AM" is the Calm after the storm. It takes things to an after hours level with too 12 inch cuts of two of the tracks on 3PM (Angel and Perfect Blue Sky). It also features a track with Sasha. This CD is very good and features a variety of tracks. This CD truly has something for everyone.

This record is stunning, mesmerizing, and beautiful. The tracks are perfectly interwoven together, the guest vocals work magically. The sound is incredible! I highly recommend this CD! If for nothing else the track featuring Robert Smith is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars What happened to Infusion?, February 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Radio JXL: A Broadcast From Computer Hell Cabin (Audio CD)
I actually bought the import version of the album, and though Junkie is breathtaking with his songs on RadioJXL, it's the inclusion of the band Infusion that makes it flawless. "Nightmares" and "Aquaman" are the best songs on the import. Maybe that's why he took them off for the U.S. release. I'm curious to know. But yes, this is still a wonderful revival for the fading electronica scene. And 18 songs and a bonus disc at that! Now that's a treat to the regular 10 song albums. If only we could have one full year with every electronica act doing an album to support great things like RadioJXL.

This review is from: Radio JXL: A Broadcast From Computer Hell Cabin (Audio CD)
I first heard about Junkie XL through a radio appearance where he was interviewed and some of the tracks off this album were played. The two which really struck me were Crusher (sung by Saffron) and Angels (the Gary Numan track). Based on that, I bought the album and I'm quite pleased with it. Of the two CDs, I prefer the 3pm CD. The three Saffron tracks (Crusher, Sprits, Beauty Never Fades) remain my favorites, but the the rest of the CD is strong as well. The 3am CD is not bad, but the higher energy of the 3pm CD is what I keep coming back to.

Shortly after buying this CD I also bought Junkie XL's companion album entitled 7am, which is available for download off his website. That one is 19 tracks divided into two discs: 7am - ambient, and 7am - dance. It's just under two hours of additional music, and has some interesting reworkings of the Computer Hell Cabin material. If you really like this album, I recommend 7am as well.
