4.0 out of 5 stars Latin Jazz from Baltimore pays homage ....., July 15, 2001

This review is from: Radio Mundo (Audio CD)
This is the Rumba Club's 4th recording for Palmetto Records. As with many of their past recordings, they look back at the music of some of the legendary figures in jazz: John Coltrane (Straight Street) and Donald Byrd (Tanya).

However, it doesn't end there, Rumba Club pays homage to three of Latin music's greatest dance bands: Orquesta Aragon (Quien Sabe Sabe), Eddie Palmieri's La Perfecta (Mi Corazon Te Llama) and Sonora Poncena (Soneremos El Tambo). This is music for listening or dancing, take your pick.

Producer Andy Gonzalez says he was drawn to the Rumba Club because, "it showcases some very talented percussionists from Cuba, Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic playing with these top notch jazz performers."

In addition, there are original compositions by band members. I am told they put on a great show as well. I look forward to seeing the Rumba Club perform live the next time they are in New York.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch, February 14, 2002
This review is from: Radio Mundo (Audio CD)
I discovered Rumba Club at a concert at the famous Blue Note. I instantly bought their CD, "Radio Mundo". This album demonstrates a perfect balance between jazz and salsa. Musicians are truly terrific, especially when it comes to drums. One of the very best albums I have had the opportunity to listen to in the last year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hometown Hits Amazon!, March 1, 2006
This review is from: Radio Mundo (Audio CD)
This is a collection of highly talented, highly personable guys. I would go hear them at places like "The Cafe Tatoo", in Baltimore. they were pretty much the pioneers of Latino Jazz. They dared to be unique and began a movment of latin jazz music and dancing along the east coast. Check out their erlier albums too, especially Desde La Capital. You will not stand still. Guys, if you read this hello, from Judy's sister!
