"much love went into this album ~ James Horner", October 29, 2003
This review is from: Radio (Audio CD)
Once again James Horner gives the listener just what the doctor ordered ~ with the new release from Hip-O Records "Radio", songs and score with much, yes very much heart. Each cue has something to say about the inner feelings of the every day person who walks the road of promise and dignity.
The first twelve tracks are tunes that any R&B collector would love, featuring "WE CAN WORK IT OUT" (Stevie Wonder), "I'LL BE AROUND" (The Spinners), "IF YOU DON'T KNOW ME BY NOW" (Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes), "CHINA GROVE" (The Doobie Brothers), "BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU GOT" (William DeVaughn) and "GOING IN CIRCLES" (Friends of Distinction) all under one roof and you've got them...gotta love it!
The next seven cues on this album features the heart rendering compositions from composer James Horner ~ much like the Jerry Goldsmith "Rudy" score, Horner gives the listener a rare glimpse into what life's all about...PEOPLE! Hats off to all the Hip-O Records clan for this wonderful experience through music ~ so just put this on, sit back and enjoy every morsel with all of the "film-score-buffs" out there!
Total Time: 77:46 on 20 Tracks ~ Hip-O Records B0001494 ~ (10/21/2003)

Turn Up the Radio, January 28, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Radio (Audio CD)
James Horner does it again with Radio. I love the theme from this movie. Sadly there's only about 20 mins of score on this CD but at least it's good stuff.
India Arie lends her vocal talents to the score giving it that trademark Horner sound (Titanic, Beautiful Mind). I keep finding myself going back to this score when I need a break. The main theme is used quite a bit in the score but it's the different orchestrations and variations that James uses that make this a very pleasant listening experience. Horner always delivers when it comes to tear-jerking dramas and Radio is no expception. My only complaint is that I wanted to hear more score and instead we get the typical classic rock soundtrack compilation with a little bit of score. At least the score that you get on the CD is great and worthy of repeat listening. If you haven't seen the movie or heard the music, I would highly recommend it!
