the perfect send-up of superhero comics..., November 11, 2011
This review is from: Radioactive Man #1 The Simpsons (The Origin of Radioactive Man) (Comic)
Despite what the listing says, this and other "Radioactive Man" comics are available from Amazon associcates.
"Radioactive Man" is a mashup/trashup of just about every superhero comic. Layabout playboy Claude Kane III (whose front gate has a large K on it) becomes Radioactive Man when exposed to the blast from his father's new atomic weapon. With his super powers, he begins a never-ending battle against evil and Communism -- the latter represented by Dr Crab (who later mutates into Prawn). Do I need to tell you that RM is a reactionary lunkhead?
Besides the origin story, the first issue has a solid spoof of the '50s comic-book witch hunt led by Frederic Wertham (qv). William G Maimes' (ie, William M Gaines') testimony about the artistic value of comics is priceless.
If you don't have this and the other Radioactive Man comics, something very funny is missing from your life.
