4.0 out of 5 stars Scorching Blues & R&B: The South's Talented Cate Brothers, August 25, 2001
This review is from: Radioland (Audio CD)
The Cate Brothers Band, with Ernie on smooth, muscular vocals and keyboards, and brother Earl on lead guitar and backing vocals fooled me. Blue-eyed soul, R&B, hot Blues and a veneer of pop with funky backbeats was much more than I expected, having first heard the Brothers backing up one of the greatest modern electric Blues guitarists, Coco Montoya. Radioland has a little something for everyone. One of the catchiest tunes would be the title track, mid tempo longing for a mysterious woman who got tired of a one horse town and said she came from Radioland. The Cate Brothers speculate this would be somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon line. Coco Montoya joins Earl for a shared lead of scorching Blues ax on the aptly named Damn Guilty Blues. More down and dirty Blues appear on Please No More, After This Time, and the outstanding and haunting Am I Losing You. The singer hears his woman talking in her sleep, and mentioning someone else's name...The Brothers take it home with the help of their letter perfect back-up band. Uptempo tracks create an infectious groove with Solid Ground, Sometimes It Jumps and the funky work-out of Strip Search (For Love). A solid effort and worthy contender for spot on your CD changer. It brings to mind both Muscle Shoals and that old, beloved Stax Volt Memphis sound. When they call it Delta soul, you'll soon know what it's all about!

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth voice, hot guitar licks. this is one of my favorites., January 8, 1999

This review is from: Radioland (Audio CD)
Cate brothers have some of the best blues both rough and smooth. Lead vocals in upper range with the smoothness of silk. Lead guitar has some of the most tasteiest licks I've heard in a long time. The next CD I buy will be "Srtuck A Vein". Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

It started with an audio tape our son brought us several years ago that someone had given him. We love music! Duh! I finally thought to look on Amazon for the Cate Brothers. We didn't even know the name of the album, but thanks to Amazon always being there for us, we were able to sample the album and bingo! We're beyond glad to have this CD and can't recommend it highly enough. Every instrument involved in this album is topnotch. We love it and hope the Cate Brothers continue to record their terrific licks and give us more recorded reasons to "have the blues".

5.0 out of 5 stars Lonely island pick, June 10, 2007
This review is from: Radioland (Audio CD)
I'm from Holland and a fan from the beginning. Unfortunately they only performed here once. In my opinion this band is very much underrated - I really don't know why their earlier albums aren't reissued on cd. This album is a big surprise; for me it's their best they made so far and I couldn't believe they were able to improve their songwriting and playing. No one sings ballads better and more sensitive than Earnie, who can play such melodic solo's like Earl. Highlights are: "Am I losing you", "All I gave" and of course the unforgettable "After this time",here they reach a peak little bands can follow. I think it's clear that this album is one of my favourits and I keep on listen it - it still thrills me after all those years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! Permanent in my truck CD changer., April 14, 1999

I was turned on to this group by a friend in Florida. You don't hear the Cate Brothers in California. What a shame. I wish they would record more music like the tracks on this CD. This CD makes you turn up the volume. Every track is good. Much more intense than "Struck a Vein"

This review is from: Radioland (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite CD's from a collection of over 300. It and the other Cate Brother's CD, "Struck a Vein", are permanent selections on my 5 disk CD changer. My favorite selections are "There Goes the Neighborhood" and "Damn Guilty Blues".

The performances, sound quality and production are all first rate.

BUY IT!!!!!!!
