Book Description

Radiology has seen dramatic technological advances in recent years. This multi-author text describes the current approach to colonic imaging and provides a detailed insight into likely future developments. The role of radiology in cancer screening is fully considered. In this context, particular attention is devoted to CT and MR virtual colonography, which, it is anticipated, will largely replace barium enema radiology and reduce the use of diagnostic colonoscopy. Modern cancer staging techniques, including PET scanning, are reviewed, and post-treatment follow-up strategies are examined. The imaging of inflammatory and traumatic conditions of the colon is described, as are current colonic interventional options, such as tumour stenting, colon decompression and vascular embolisation. In short, this book provides a comprehensive, well-illustrated and up-to-date review of colonic imaging.

Review

From the reviews:

"The volume covers all classical and new radiological and imaging modalities of the colon … . Each chapter is well written, easy to read and to consult, and frequently complemented by schemes, tables and several illustrations, most of which are of outstanding quality. References are numerous and updated. … The volume provides a valid updating of knowledge on colon radiology and imaging. The rich iconography, concise and essential descriptions, and particularly the clinical integration make the volume of great interest … ." (G. Maconi, Digestive and Liver Diseases, Vol. 37, 2005)

"This is a comprehensive and high quality book dealing with modern colonic imaging. … the reader is left confident that he or she has access to up-to-date information from true experts in their field. … Overall, this is an excellent reference text and would appeal to any radiologist, radiographer or, indeed, clinician who has more than a passing interest in colonic imaging." (Dr. Stuart A Taylor, RAD Magazine, November, 2004)

"Anthony Chapman edits a book on radiology of the colon, describing the current approach to colonic imaging and providing insight into the future developments. … All chapters are characterized by a clear structure and well-selected figures with excellent descriptions. … the editor and the authors have succeeded in providing an excellent up-to-date book on the latest imaging aspects in colonic disease, which will be of great interest not only for practitioners and professionals in the field of radiology, but also for abdominal surgeons and gastroenterologists." (T. J. Vogl, European Radiology, Vol. 16, 2006)
