5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite garden tool
This is my favorite garden tool. It's extremely sturdy. It won't fall apart, and it won't rust. It holds up well to constant use, even in my soil which is mostly clay. 1.0 out of 5 stars Broke immediately
I saw these type garden tools on This Old House and decided to try it since I have arthritis in my hands. One day, after using just a few times, I droped it on the concrete and a large patch of the shovel broke right off. There is no possibility to reattach. I am terribly disappointed. It is not sturdy at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite garden tool, June 19, 2010

This review is from: Radius Garden 101 Ergonomic Aluminum Hand Transplanter (Lawn & Patio)
This is my favorite garden tool. It's extremely sturdy. It won't fall apart, and it won't rust. It holds up well to constant use, even in my soil which is mostly clay. In the past, I've used cheaper hand trowels that bend over time, or the handle falls off, or it rusts. Having used my Radius transplanter for over a year now, I know it will last for the rest of my gardening years.

I spend a lot of time in my flower gardens, and I needed a good tool that was comfortable to use. That's the primary reason I wanted to try the Radius tools in the first place. I used to get sore spots in the palm of my hand if I did much digging with other hand trowels. The curved grip on this transplanter is ideal. My days of painful palms are over, now that I have this tool. It's just a pleasure to use.

I also have the Radius hand trowel and the weeder, but this transplanter is the one tool I reach for 9 times out of 10. I know they call this a transplanter, but I use it for most of my garden chores that require a hand trowel. I like using this transplanter more than the hand trowel because the blade is longer, so I can dig a deeper hole. That's especially important when planting flower bulbs in the autumn. I should also mention that the blade on the transplanter is narrower than the blade on the hand trowel. So, if you prefer a trowel with a blade that is shorter but wider than this transplanter, then you'll want to buy the Radius hand trowel instead.

I've used many different hand trowels over the years, but this is the best one I've ever used. Yes, it's more money than some other garden hand tools, but because it won't rust or fall apart, I think it's worth the extra money. And that curved handle makes gardening easier than it was before because it gives me the leverage to dig much easier than I could with other hand trowels. If you're going to try just one of the Radius garden tools, I highly recommend this one as your first Radius purchase. If you have a garden friend, buy this for them. They will never stop thanking you. Like I said... this is my favorite garden tool. I guess that's the highest compliment a gardener could give a tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Gardening Gift I've Received!, April 26, 2011
This review is from: Radius Garden 101 Ergonomic Aluminum Hand Transplanter (Lawn & Patio)
I received this transplanter as a gift. I have used it several times already for dividing perennial grasses in rocky soil and transplanting seedlings. This transplanter feels lightweight but yet it is the most durable of all of my trowels. In the past, I have bent all of my standard trowels while trying to divide perennials and also strained myself trying to get enough pressure forced onto the standard trowel to actually split the perennials. This transplanter's curved hand rest allows you to exert much more force with less effort and the blade is showing no signs of bending yet. I'm going to be getting one of these for my mother-in-law who is also an avid gardener. This will be the one tool that I can't live without now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for gardener, December 4, 2009
This review is from: Radius Garden 101 Ergonomic Aluminum Hand Transplanter (Lawn & Patio)
My wife got this for Christmas last year. She loves it and uses it almost every day. Very sturdy. In this part of texas we have a lot of rocks and it stands up to the toughest chore. Great product, worth the money

I used this tool all summer when transplanting perennials and annuals in my garden. The long spade really gets down deep in the soil. I much prefer it to other spades I have used. The ergonomic handle design is also quite comfortable when using a lot of force in the soil to dig. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great design, May 4, 2009
Great design, you can work all day and not hurt you hands. It does take a little time to re-train you hands, but it is clearly better. Better leverage also. Regular garden tools seem so primitive when you get used to these.

The blade and the handle are one piece of metal so no problems with handles coming loose or breaking.

The only bad thing I can say is they take up more room in a toolbox because of the curved handles. But well worth the space.

I have the whole set of hand tools, plus 2 shovels and a pitchfork. All great. Truly, the next step in garden tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, July 16, 2011

I'm like most gardeners that have several hand tools and do I really need another? Answer is YES! This is a great tool and all the other's stay on the bench now that I own this one. If you look at this transplanter you'll notice the cane type handle which you can use to hold your self up well reaching into beds to pull weeds or harvest items. It's strong but lightweight and can do more than just transplant.

I bought this for my husband who had been complaining about his wrists hurting after a day of yard work. He loves this! I plan on buying the other designs. Highly recommend and it was shipped fast.

The radius handle is easy on the hands unlike standard little garden tools that give you a blister and hurt the middle palm of your hand while trying to push it into the dirt. Cast aluminmum is sturdy and overall it's a very worthwhile investment if you want to make life a little more bearable for those peskie little gardening chores.
