5.0 out of 5 stars "Bonfire" return to their classic 80s hard rock sound, (only a bit darker this time), March 8, 2010

This review is from: Raeuber (Audio CD)
"Bonfire" was a catalyst in the development of the German 80s hard rock sound bringing together such influences as the heavy hitting `Scorpions' and American AOR, subsequently bridging the gap between the European and American rock sound.

"The Rauber" is the latest `Bonfire' studio album to date originally released in 2008. One is very happy to witness the band going back to the sound that defined their first two classic albums ("Don't touch the lights" and "Fireworks").In terms of their latest two albums, the experimentation of "Free" (2003) is gone, while the diversity of "Double X" (2006) (spanning from metal to acoustic) is considerably avoided.

"The Rauber" sums up everything that was great about the early "Bonfire" albums: Extra hard rock riffs blended with AOR melodies and choruses, still a slight differentiation comes in the fact that "The Rauber" is considerably dark in terms of lyrics and melodies, somewhat contrasting the playful/positive atmosphere of their early days.

What's more "The Rauber" is a really lengthy album, taking into account the four bonus tracks, the track count reaches 18. Favorite songs include the thunderous "Bells of Freedom", the extra melodic "Refugee of fate" and the direct rocker "Black night".

If you are a fan of `Bonfire', specifically their 80s works, then "The Rauber" is an undisputed must. It will bring back memories.
