a glimpse of things to come, December 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
'Rafi's Revenege' is a powerful statement, both musically and culturally. Musically, it is hard not to compare the young Brixton lads to the US's Rage Against the Machine- political rant/rap with squealing guitars and pounding beats. But really that's where the similarities end. ADF combines several flavour to the mix- rap, ragga, jungle and even a touch of bollywood, sometimes unsuccessfully. Agenda wise, ADF succeeds where RATM failed- there is a consistent political focus to ther writing- the acceptance and accreditation of South Asian and Afro Carribean youth in the United Kingdom. This is the focus of the album, and it never strays from its mission. The band however loses its intensity in the middle of the album- after pummeling through the first four tracks, the album mellows out to a blunted ragga beat, only to return to fired intensity with 'Operation Eagle Eye.' This band was built on the hyper dynamics of Das's rapping with the rubberband interaction of drum and bass with guitar pyrotechnics, and they chose to omit it for a 1/3 of the record. To really get a feel for this fabulous group, locate their live album, 'Concious Party'- it indeed captures their frantic energy and true colours. Look for good things in the future for ADF!

Rafi's RAGE!!!, August 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
This album is exellent from start to end! Sometimes it is groovy, and sometimes in shakes with rage. The lead singer/rapper sounds a bit like Zack de la rocha of Rage against The Machine, his rap spit political fire! The 5 East Indian members are musical wizards that create innovative beats. With political lyrics that make you wanna get involved and beats that make ya wanna bop your head, especially on songs like "dub mentaliy". This is somethin that will catch your musical ear sooner or later!!!!!

ADF: A band to keep an eye on., August 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
The sound is a cross between Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine and Jamaican Rankin'. But you know what? It works. Solid bass and drum in the back. Great sound engineering. The music is well architectured with driving lyrics. Some HighLights: Naxalite: Fast & furious. Culture Move: Excellent Baseline. These guys are on a mission to blend Indo-Asian sounds with Afro-Jamaican beats and from the sounds of this album, I think they are on their way...

One of the most influential albums of this decade., July 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
With music becoming more of an industry than an art form, its is very hard to find good music. This album is better than good its incomparable! With vicious verbal attacks, mesmerizing Drums & Bass and dubbish guitar rifts this is a musical blend to perfection. Anyone who rates this album low has not had the opportunity to really grasp the power of this albumn. Its concious messages rang from racism to police brutality and although sometimes difficult to decipher Master D spits some of the best lyrics since Illmatic,no joke! Along with Illmatic, Rage Against the Machine, Blue Lines, Liquid Swordz and Entroducing this is one of the best albumns let out not only in this decade but ever. Support good music! Buy this album.

Now everybody listen....... this album has got a bit of stick because of john pandits very politcal songs including tunes about freeing a wrongly convicted asian man and a tribe in asia who have been messed up; NAXALITE (my personal fav) i bought this album purely based on the buzzin single and let me tell you lady's and gentlepersons this is truly amazing and never bores. just whack it on and you can listen to it all the way through without getting a second of boredom. buy it now and help fund pandits pockets. also Master D (the rapper) isn't bad for a 16 year old and has wicked rapping ability. Check it out NOW

RAFI'S REVENGE IS THE ULTIMATE CELINE DIONNE ANTIDOTE, November 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
Rafi's Revenge is an underground cult classic here in Durban (South Africa) and it's not hard to see why. It mixes up ragga, drum'n'bass, rock, hiphop and Asian folk music into an original, massively energetic, ultra funky and utterly captivating record. And of course the progressive, conscious lyrics make this an album that's as valuable socially as it is musically. If you've ever listend bands and artists like Rage Against the Machine, LKJ, Groove Rider, Roni Size, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, Fun<da>mental etc, etc this album will probably be like a shot of adrenalin straight to your jugular. It's garunteed to put fire in your eyes, iron in your soul and a whole lot of groove in your hips. What more could you want from an album?

Finally a band that does not talk about crap, August 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
With all the bullsh** music out there today, there are only a handful of Good socially conscience bands, one of them is rage against the machine and the other is the one and only Asian Dub Foundation. This is not just a rant against the system, its DAMN good music! ADF do not play to the mainstream, if you are into jungle, drum n' bass, techno, reggae, hip-hop you will definately dig this album. This album has a great message that needs to be heard. Stop listening to Master P and his No-Talent soldiers and get down with Master D and ADF!

This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
this album is a blend of drum n's bass and jungle beats along with guitar reefs and a rock environment. most of the album is just great, with sessions of creative mixture. the best songs are 'naxalite' and 'culture move'. i loved it, even though it took me some time to get the hang of it.

wow., April 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
bought this record last year, thought it was okay, but the faux-ragga vox of master d was kinda annoying. saw them here in dc last week, and now i cant stop listening to it. takes on a whole new dimension. highly recommended to anyone liking any musical style -- there's something for everyone. if they come to your town, go see them.

By A Customer
This review is from: Rafi's Revenge (Audio CD)
rafi's revenge was far and away one of the better releases of '98 -- this band has fresh energy and its music is a sonic assault on complaceny-- so there you have it: deft programming + amazing musical taste and, o yes, an incredibly relentless groove. this band's for real.
