Book Description

Under the onslaught of supernatural evil, the acts of good people can seem insignificant, but a courageous few stand apart. These brave men and women stand up to the darkness, stare it right in the eye, and give it the finger. These are the stories of those who rage against the night, stories of triumph, sacrifice, and bravery in the face of overwhelming evil.

Rage Against the Night features the megastars of dark fantasy and horror—including Stephen King, Ramsey Campbell, Peter Straub, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, F. Paul Wilson, Jonathan Maberry, Scott Nicholson, Nancy Holder, Sarah Langan, and many, many more.

All proceeds will be donated to Rocky Wood, author and President of the Horror Writers Association, who is battling motor neurone disease.

I loved it, really enjoyed a lot of the stories within, and of course it supported a great cause.

Of course no one will like everything published in any anthology, but you focus on the stories you do enjoy, and from there look for other pieces written by those authors.

The only reason this collection got 4 stars instead of 5 for me, and I can't believe I'm the only person to mention it, was the insane amour of mistakes, i'm talking 'there' instead of 'their' and similar, as well as some stranger ones like... oh I'm struggling to think, I should have written this when they were fresh in my mind, but for instance words like belly being replaced with belie. Not a spelling mistake, per say, but clearly the wrong word. And very, very few of the stories in the collection were immune from these mistakes, and I'll tell you, they were constant, kind of cute at first, but in the end they were too consistent, too distracting, and I felt like I was editing something for a friend. I'm pleased to say that Stephen King's entry was one of the few that was unaffected by this bizarre phenomenon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Good, some great, some for a certain taste only September 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a book, I liked it, but I did find some stories were just not my taste, which was expected, given the number of different writers involved. It did give me 2 more writers that I now want to read more from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scary And Horrific! May 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Loved this great collection of horror stories by some legends of the craft, as well as some lesser known writers (to me at least). I love short stories, and this collection certainly satisfied by need for the horrific and gory. All proceeds for this book go to a great cause as well, so I just had to pick it up!

If you're looking for some good horror to while away the time without reading a full-length novel, consider Rage Against the Night, it's well worth your time!

Two thumbs up! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss out on 2012's #1 anthology! May 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"Rage Against the Night"' is a horror anthology put together by Shane Jiraiya Cummings to raise money to help out Rocky Wood, one of the genre's well known authors and the President of the HWA, who has Lou Gehrig's disease.

It is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good scare every now and then. It is filled with some of the best short stories that I have read in a long time. I found it hard to put down and in the end, disappointed that it was over. These short stories were written by some of the genre's biggest heavy hitters who hold back no punches, each story grabbing hold and sucking you in deep.

Don't miss out on 2012's #1 anthology!

This is the book of books. Years ago, a book called The Architecture of Fear came out and won the World Fantasy Award for anthologies. This book comes close to that in both the merit of the writers and the editor itself. But most important, this book is indeed Rage Against the Night. The Night of disease and our battle against it. And the benighted here is that great and humble man Rocky Wood. This book should be bought by all and all concerned. For the greatness of its cause and the brilliance of the contributing authors who have banded together to help fight the Night. What a great collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars Spell check January 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The stories were pretty good as they were, but, someone needs to do some spell checking. I have read hundreds and hundreds of books and I have never read a book of short stories where just about every story had spelling or punctuation mistakes. I have read books of several hundred pages where sometimes I have found one or two mistakes that were missed. I find that acceptable in a document of that length. The mistakes in these stories were distracting, too many in a short story, and all of them had mistakes. Unless I know the writer is an eight year old, that many mistakes is not acceptable. Maybe it was just the kindle edition, I don't know.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good writing, mostly. Not what I expected. January 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I guess I am too old school with my anthologies, having grown up on Asimov, Campbell, and others. The stories in this collection are well written, for the most part, but the horror and the nature of the beasts are too contemporary and trendy for my taste. A few of the works felt padded: I would reach a point halfway into the story and feel it was fine as is....but it would continue for a while more. So with that I will say: this is worth the money if you prefer contemporary horror, but I would recommend reading a sample before buying.

Fantastic collection for a worthwhile cause. Every story is strong, with known and unknown (to me, at least) authors represented. All proceeds go to a worthy charitable cause, so there is NO reason not to grab this great collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
I really don't like to read short stories. To me there is always something lacking. Like a good ending. I really bought it because it was for such a good cause.

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad
Not bad for a compilation of short stories. Some stories lacked a plot or story line. Good for those with no large chunks of time to sit & read
