This review is from: Rage of Angels (Audio Cassette)
Sidney Sheldon's Rage of Angels tells the story of beautiful Jennifer Parker, a rising young New York attorney who becomes involved with two very different men - Michael Morreti is a ruthless killer and Adam Warner is being groomed for the Presidency. We follow Jennifer for many years as she becomes a mother as well as a lawyer for the mafia, all the while finding true love is just beyond her reach.

Sheldon knows how to write breezy page-turners, and Rage of Angels is no exception. His characters are absorbing and the action never stops. Susannah York was not a good choice to read this story, however. Her upper class British accent sounded silly when she did the voices of low-life street hoodlums, and she read so quickly, I often had to rewind the tape and listen again. I gave the story 5 stars and the audio cassette version 3 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a story!, December 23, 2002
By
Katie Amos (Columbia, IL United States) - See all my reviews
Always looking for a new author I can get behind, I took the advise of many friends and read this book. WOW! Normally I am a "Romantic, man & woman meet fall in love have a problem get back together" sort of story-lover. This is more like a rollercoaster ride of life. For fear of giving anything away if you read the book but wanting anyone who will listen to read this and be inspired to read this book: Sheldon gives you fantastic character developement. You have a heroine who you can't help but want to cheer on, a supporting hero who you want to like but for the fact that he's married, and a lead hero who you want to hate but just can't because he's to dangerously enchanting. The book is about a lady lawyer and the trials (no pun intended) of her life. During the coarse of the story I kept thinking how is Sheldon going to fix "all this" by the end of the book, and the answer is simple: This is not a story where everything gets fixed. When I first read the back of the book the last line was " they find a love that is more destructive than hate". At first my interpretation was that it was a love that could destruct hate, but now after reading the book the hard part to handle was it meant the love itself was more destructive to the characters than hate was. There are a million love stories that are "Happy ever after", I've read hundreds of them, this is love with some twists and turns, but every bit as fantastic.

This book is very worth reading and grips you right from the start. Sheldon has a way with words that allows you to become part of the story. I hope that you give it a go. I look forward to reading more Sheldon novels! : )

3.0 out of 5 stars The Usual Sidney, July 16, 2001

The books starts off well with the Sidney's usual - Woman who has nothing to woman has all the power. He uses this story line too much in different contexts and just changing the scenario sometimes doesnt cut it. The character is seriously flawed in that she is Ms Perfect record who can do it all. She is a plainly selfish person but Sidney tries to cover all this up by the emotional and sentimental attachments with the other characters in the book. She sides and helps the Mafia only because of what they will do to her son and not giving a thought to all the lives she is putting at stake by acquitting all sorts of criminals. She is in love with a soon to be president- politician, whom one of the mafia cant identify when he comes in contact with him. Come on! How dumb and un-informed are the mafia? Then there is the fact that no one knows about about her son. Not the Mafia, not the politician who "has been looking everywhere for her" and not the press who are following her every case. The press for Gods sake, the bloodhounds of our species! There are lots of other questions raised that I will not discuss but I still dont see how this book and especially the character can be liked by so many. Only die hard fans and those who have never encountered any of Sidney Sheldons women should read this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book - horrible ending! :(, June 2, 2010

Wow...what a book that I could not put down. The story just kept drawing me in...again and again, however; the ending dropped the ball completely. For a while I thought that my Kindle had missed some of the final pages at the end of the book, but after reading others reviews, I'm sure that I got the full transcript. Not to be a spoiler, but what happened to Jennfer Parker...how could this end so abruptly? Anyone else think this?

4.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Ending to a Fast-Paced Story, March 19, 2007
This review is from: Rage of Angels (Paperback)
I honestly had a very hard time putting this book down and found I got very little accomplished until I completed reading the story. Sheldon outdoes himself with a tale of intrigue, suspense and hopeless romance. Enter, Jennifer Parker, smart and talented young attorney (fresh out of law school) with only the best of intentions as she begins her career as an attorney in the NYC District Attorney's office. From the start, DA, Robert Di Silva, takes a dislike to her, for no good or apparent reason ever told. Jennifer then gets unknowingly involved in a dangerous chain of events associated with one of the top Mafia families in NYC. It seems that no matter how hard she tries, a chain of bad events in her life seems to befall her, leading her to make decisions that put her on the wrong side of the law. She also finds herself hopelessly in love (as is he) to a mild-mannered, honest, for the most part, in all areas of his "married" life, Attorney Adam Warner, climbing his way from US Senator to the Oval Office! My only complaint with this story is the end. The book sucks us into a plot that is unbelievably hard to put down and then when you expect the big bang-up conclusion, the story seems to just come to an end quietly. The fact that the action became so intense as the Mafia set out to destroy not only Jennifer, but Adam as well (with an extremely "cliff hanging" development), and then boom it was all over. The main characters' stories were very meekly put to rest. I was truly expecting a big finale, leaving the reader with a more comfortable understanding as to the fate of the main players. It seemed to be too neatly packaged and put away. All in all, however, I would definitely recommend this book as a very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible. I love Sidney., May 6, 2001
This is the second book of Sidney that I read. Like my first one 'Bloodline', this is almost the standard definition of a 'Page-turner'. I simply sat at home for hours and read the whole book!!! Probably a lot of people have written about how great this book is, so all I can say is 'Fantastic'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rage of Angels, March 24, 2006
ISBN 0446356611 - For me, this is not Sheldon's best effort, if only because Jennifer Parker, the main character, suffers from a lack of a life - and this is largely her life story. Still, even a book that's not his best is a very good book anyway!

Jennifer Parker passed the New York Bar Exam the first time. From there, it was going to be all good. She had a job working for the NY District Attorney, Robert Di Silva, and the idealistic outlook of a go-getter young lawyer. And then, suddenly, it appeared to be over - her law career was finished a mere four hours after it began. She had sat in the courtroom on one case, and that case would define the rest of her life. Jennifer was made a pawn by Michael Moretti, a Mafia don. That earned her the lifelong hatred of D.A. Di Silva and, eventually, the lifelong love of Adam Warner.

The twists and turns Jennifer takes are made plausible, which is a storytelling feat. From defending the poor for nothing to defending the Mafia is a leap, but Sheldon pulled that off. What bothered me is that, as I said before, brilliant and beautiful Jennifer, has no life. She has no family, one friend and a career. This, apparently, explains how this high profile, somewhat notorious lawyer is able to have a child and keep his existence secret from pretty much everyone for seven years. Even less realistic than that is the last chapter, but I hate to spoil it for anyone! I'll just say it's amazing to me that she's living as Jennifer Parker, free woman, anywhere in the U.S. The nitpicking aside, Sheldon is always worth reading!

2.0 out of 5 stars Let down!, June 4, 2010

I am definitely a Sidney Sheldon fan, but I was disappointed with this story. I was never sure if I was supposed to be rooting for or against the Jennifer character. After reading the book, my first thought was, what was the purpose in reading this book. Usually I feel good or bad after reading a book. After reading this book, I felt like I had wasted my time. I also felt that there were several loose ends not dealt with in this story, e.g., Adam's wife, Ken.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rage of Angels, December 6, 2007

This review is from: Rage of Angels (Paperback)
This is a story about a young and brilliant attorney, Jennifer Parker, who gets involved and is torn between two men: Michael, a ruthless mafia man and Adam, a high profile politician being prepared for the US presidency. We follow Jennifer as she evolves through the years to become a highly successful attorney while the life she leads in the dark will come back to haunt her and eventually be the cause of her demise. Rage of Angels felt to me more like a movie than a book, and I mean this in a very good way. The plotline is extremely gripping and engaging and you will find yourself completely absorbed in the story which has it all: love, hate, power, corruption, violence, justice etc. I absolutely loved this book. I have always been a Sydney Sheldon fan but Rage of Angels is definitely my favorite.
