Review by Tyler Wagnon:

Into old school hardcore in the 80's vein a la D.R.I. and Minor Threat? Then this EP is right up your alley. Straight up, Righteous Jams is what old school hardcore is all about. Rage of Discipline is the first release from Kung Fu Records since pairing up with Broken Sounds, and is actually a reissue of Righteous Jams' 2004 EP, originally on Broken Sounds.

The 9 songs that comprise the album only last 13 minutes, so needless to say, they like to keep things brief. Normally, such short tracks are fast and brutal, but Righteous Jams doesn't really fit with the fast and angry hardcore we are so used to hearing these days. Instead, they opt for mid-paced, simple riffs and basic drum patterns that are really more fun than anything.

More bands should do this sort of thing instead of being all about the brutal stuff, and macho breakdowns. That kind of thing definitely has its place, but there is something about the classic 80's hardcore sound that can't be found anywhere else... and Righteous Jams nail it.

This is a public service announcement: The band you are reading about does not play reggae music. The name is a false cognate in the language of genres. Please do not attempt to get high and grow dreadlocks while listening to this album. This album is intended for hardcore audiences only. You will not find bongos here. This sounds like Black Flag after getting monster truck wheels put on. Righteous Jams has been known to inflict listeners with extreme urges to ninja-core dance all night long. We urge you to enjoy this album as much as possible. We now return you to your original program. Please remember to rock out.
