Rage of Mages: 3.5 out of 5,
By DAVID (CANADA!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rage of Mages Bundle (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Rage of Mages is a good RPG series, that is largely forgotten in this ages Asheron's Call, and Neverwinter Nights. Rage of Mages, I think, was a very deep and involving game for it's time, not that it has faded any in the years between it's development and the present. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO PLAY GAMES BASED ENTIRELY ON HOW THE GRAPHICS ARE, FIND A NEWER GAME. That being said, this still is a good game for graphics, except that it pales in comparison to the new games, BUT, this is not 3D either. It is an overhead view, where you control your 1 person and (if you follow the cutscenes and story) go from town to town adventuring and generally doing good deeds for people.) FOR RPG LOVERS, THIS IS A GOOD GAME, THAT IS QUITE LONG, AND A GOOD BUY. I ENJOYED IT THOROUGHLY. YOU CAN HIT ME IF YOU ARE NOT OF THE SAME OPINION. -DAVID

Poor Man's Baldur's Gate or Warcraft 2-3,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rage of Mages Bundle (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
The ROM series was lots of fun when I first played it. When I bought the CDs, about 10 years after initially playing the games I realized how similar the games were to the Warcraft or Baldur's Gate series. It's a strategy-RPG. It's not a pure RPG but it's not a pure strategy.
The graphics are a little aged and it's annoying how you have to choose between a pure mage or a pure fighter for the main character. The game itself is real time, so you have to control your group quickly, and not let them get hit. You had to think quickly and actually come up with strategies. The most annoying thing for me overall was how the enemies would repeat in the second installment. Everywhere you turned there'd be a necromancer ready to blast your group with a various spell. Overall the game was really fun, on par with the Warcraft series, had the game allowed more customization it would have been perfect.

Rage and Mage rhyme, yay,
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rage of Mages Bundle (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I played this one online for a bit.
Wasn't overly impressed with it though, it was something new so I went for it and while not terrible then, it is now. Another early upstart in the rpg's being pushed online though. The map building tool was fun, we exploited it to have massive in rushing monsters with BA guards posted nearby that could slay them so we could easily level up. Definitely had entertainment value. If you played it now though you may be a little put out.
