Much better than the last one,

This review is from: Rage Therapy (Hardcover)
I just finished Rage Therapy. This author has been 50-50 for me so far, so I hesitated with Rage Therapy. I am glad that I ended up getting it.
The story of psychologist Joel - being asked to "solve" the murder of his friend and co-worker is slow starting. At the beginning, I was wondering if this would be yet another slow moving Kalla novel (I hated his previous book and loved his first one)but it soon picks up and I found myself totally engrossed. Quick paced and entertaining and kept me guessing. Nice medical thriller. Not as good as Pandemic, but pretty good.

Pathetic people,

Rage Therapy centers around the deaths of two shrinks who happen to be some of the most disgusting and horrible people alive and another shrink who is a dundering coward. All three of these despicable men get their just desserts, though I thought the punishment Joel received was more of a slap on the wrist considering the amount of obstructing he was guilty of. No rainbows or HEA here, just a gritty story about the deviants of our society.

This is the third book I've read by Kalla and I must say that he is maturing into a fine thriller writer. His books hold my attention so well that I usually go through one in within 2 days of starting it. While his subject matter is medical-based, he doesn't mire down the "good stuff" with too much medical techno-babble. His characters are well defined and the action keeps moving right along, almost from Page 1. I could think of many worse ways to spend my leisure time!

I enjoyed Pandemic so I thought I would enjoy another book by Daniel Kalla. But this book was awful. It was very boring & the subject matter was distasteful. Less than half way through the book, I skipped to the last chapter to see who the murderer was. Then I threw it in the trash. Because of this book, I probably won't read any more books by this author.

This book was great. Great plot, suspenseful, full of twists and turns. The book has great characters and character development. There is a giant curveball for the ending, I never saw it coming. Try this book, I bet you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Generic and cliche riddled,
By Jamie (Richmond, Va.) - See all my reviews

I had high hopes for this one but was quickly disappointed. The characters were lifeless and boring and the writing was amateurish at best. It says in the author info that this guy is an ER doc. So why is his protagonist a psychiatrist? Luckily it was a short book, but it was still terrible.
