About the Author

Jack Micheline received the "Revolt in Literature" Award from Nat Hentoff, Charlie Mingus and Jean Shepard at the Half Note Cafe in the mid-Fifties.His first book in 1958, RIVER OF RED WINE,had an introduction by Jack Kerouac. He received the "Most Valuable Performance" Award from Ken Kesey at Naropa in 1984. He was on the Conan O'Brien Show. He borrowed money from William Saroyan in Spain, had an inebriated James T. Farrell as his best man when he got married in the early Sixties, and had over 100 suitcases of his p[oetry and paintings stored here, there and everywhere. He died on a BART train in San FRancisco in 1998 at the age of 68; they found him at the end of the line. He stitched the Beat Generation together with his powerful presence, year after year, decade after decade. He is the most unsung hero in all of American literature.
