Excellent book! Although their are only a handfull of traps described in this book, it seems that they'd be the one's to bring the highest yeild. I would recomend this to the begginer and the self claimed expert.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners or survival trapping, November 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ragnar's Ten Best Traps: And A Few Others That Are Damn Good Too (Paperback)
I am sure these traps would be welcome knowledge for those out there who plan to make trapping their livelihood, or at least their main hobby. They are really set ups in which to use steel traps, not usually available to those in survival situations. Also, I got the feeling (admittedly without much knowledge on the subject) from a few of the passages that some of the techniques are not exactly legal, or at least frowned upon by authorities. There is very little information for beginners, other than the chapter on baiting and the mention of baits he gives while describing his sets. Beginners should look elsewhere as the only specifics from the set descriptions really have to do with trap size and wire type (or construction materials), no mention of what knots work best for snares, how to set a trap without leaving a scent, how to cover a trap properly, etc. I may just have a different definition of beginner, but I was hoping for more detail on trap / snare construction, less on where to put constructed traps / snares. The book was well written, just very little of what I was looking to learn. There are two traps that I could see being good for survival situations, but I am pretty sure I have seen them elsewhere. As a side note, I didn't look at the author's other titles and hope I am not on the "No Fly" list for buying this book. (That was a joke... I hope, either way it didn't affect my rating)

4.0 out of 5 stars Traps Book made interesting reading, May 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ragnar's Ten Best Traps: And A Few Others That Are Damn Good Too (Paperback)
Easy transaction. Book made for interesting reading. Most of the traps are snap traps but I think some of the scenarios could be altered for use with catch & release traps for homeowners.
