I had previously purchased a Scott Joplin CD and was disappointed by the dull quality and dispirited playing by the artist. This CD more than makes up for it. The music was beautifully performed and the recording was very clear. Every piece was perfect!

Music is great, as is the playing. However, the last song is not Magnetic Rag but rather the same version of Maple Leaf Rag heard earlier on the album.
What is with that?

If you are like me, you do not know much about ragtime music. Educate yourself. Get "Rags to Riches: The Essential Hits of Scott Joplin." Joplin is the creator of rag music, which once was
extremely popular. The music is timeless. Anyone who enjoys good music, will like rags.

The CD is great; it has wonderful sound and vitatliy. And of course, Scott Joplin is a terrific artist. THE ONLY PROBLEM with the CD is that #18 "Magnetic Rag" is really "Maple Leaf Rag" (thus, "Maple Leaf Rag" is on the CD twice).

I volunteer my time to teach an exercise class at a nursing/rehab center once a week in which the majority of them are elderly. They grew up with the 30s and 40s music. Some go as far back as 20s music. So, I was trying to find tunes they would enjoy and possibly stir up happy memories for them. This one was a hit! The piano music has an easy flow to it and yet, is upbeat making you feel like tapping your toes and snapping your fingers. I, myself, am from a younger generation but I thoroughly enjoyed this particular CD from Scott Joplin. I would recommend this one!
