Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Two books about American business success that are right on target. Both are divided into chapters, each on a particular business or entrepreneur. The chapters are long enough to give an honest glimpse of each subject, but brief enough to hold interest. The writing is smooth and readable, with the terms clearly defined on the pages on which they are first used. Black-and-white photos include some interesting shots that reflect the eras in which these various companies were founded. Close Calls describes the difficult beginnings of the H. J. Heinz Corporation, Hallmark Cards Inc., Chrysler Corporation, and six other companies, with biographical information on their founders. From Rags to Riches includes brief biographies of Richard W. Sears, Milton Hershey, and J. C. Penney, among others. Those looking for information on businesses founded by minorities or women will have to look elsewhere. However, the accounts included here are fair, accurate, and interesting. --Marilyn Long Graham, Jacksonville Pub . Lib . , FL
