5.0 out of 5 stars How it all began
This book shows what Ragweed did before he got to Dimwood forest. The prequel to Poppy is as fun as ever, with it's own new set of villans, and characters. It also shows how different city life can be from the country. This is a fun, quick read for all ages.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but trendy language a turn-off
In Avis prequel to Poppy (1995) and Poppy and Rye (1998), Ragweed the mouse leaves his family in the country and hops a train, winding up in the town of Amperville. There he meets mice that live in broken-down vehicles and are named for car parts: Clutch, Lugnut, Dipstick, Blinker, Windshield, and Foglight. 5.0 out of 5 stars The runaway mouse, March 9, 2001
This review is from: Ragweed (The Poppy Stories) (Paperback)
In the story Ragweed is by the author Avi. It is about a mouse which decides to explore the New World. He wants to see the lights, people, and excitment. He ended up in a city called Amperville. He thought it was a nice town until he figured that many cats live there and are in search for mice. With Ragweed, Blinker, and Clutch they build a new club named Cafe Independent. Read the exciting and adventurous story of Ragweed on his suicide run for the city. If I was in confusing in reading a book, I would recommand this book. It is very well written and high vocabulary. The story was well planned out and I am sure it took a lot of time for the author to think of such a story. The illustrations are incredibly magnificent and helped in the understanding of the bood. This book will fill you with thrills and suspence.

Ragweed is an extraordinary book filled with suspense and action. In this book Ragweed and his friends fight F.E.A.R. (Felines Enraged About Rodents). Silversides and Graybar are the F.E.A.R. cats. The mice win the battle, and become free of Silversides and Graybar. I recomend this book to any and every young reader.

4.0 out of 5 stars Put in a mouses shoes....., August 2, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ragweed (The Poppy Stories) (Paperback)
This is a VERY good book, for people up to the age of 15. As I finished this book, I told my mom that next time we went to Barnes and Noble, we had to get the 2nd. (Poppy). I finished that a couple of days ago and also loved it! Now I have book 3 and 4. It is not the best book I have ever read, that would be Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. But this is running up. Although, I liked the 2nd Poppy, a little better than Ragweed. There just so different. Plus this really makes you appreciate all the living creatures (like mice), in this world. PLEASE READ!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book Review From a Spiritridge Third Grader, March 22, 2007
This review is from: Ragweed (The Poppy Stories) (Paperback)
Do you want an adventurous, dangerous, thrilling story that will make you jump out of your skin? Well, you should read Ragweed, by Avi. Ragweed is about a mouse that lives by a brook and wants to travel from country to country to see the world! He comes along a fork in the road and needs to decide which way to go. Suddenly, a vole bumps into him! Finding himself starting a conversation on which way to go, he discovers that one path leads to a railroad! So he follows it to the railroad and gets on one of the parked trains. After the train ride Ragweed runs top speed to escape a cat! The rest is SECRET until you read the book!

I enjoyed that Ragweed met lots of friends, including extremely unpleasant ones! For example, he meets Silversides and Graybar two unpleasant cats.

Readers who are interested in adventure and who can read thick chapter books should read this book! It is very satisfying!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ragweed, March 7, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ragweed (Paperback)
Avi's book, "Ragweed" tells a tale of a mouse named Ragweed who leaves his home to explore and experience new things. He sets off by train for Amperville, a big city with cars, music, and danger. Danger of cats. Silversides is the founder and president of F.E.A.R., which stands for Felines Enraged About Rodents. It's an organization where cats gather and get rid of mice. Graybar, the vice president is willing to help her. Later on, Ragweed meets and befriends band members known as Clutch, Dipstick, Lugnut and Blinker, a white, shy pet mouse. Among these friends, they decide that they should start a club without a cat trashing it. Together the mice transform an abandoned bookstore into a cool new club, the Café Independent. But with Silversides and Graybar on the move, just how long will the club remain?

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable!, February 12, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ragweed (The Poppy Stories) (Paperback)
I am currently reading this book, its the second time I've read it and it is just adorable. Clutch has got to be my favorite character; she's a rebel, rides a skateboard, plays the guitar, and to top it off she dyed her hair (fur on top of her head) green! This story is exciting and cute and good for anyone who likes the Avi series or just loves animals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ragweed, November 27, 2003

Boxy The Turtle (Mezmerize/Hypnotize) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ragweed (The Poppy Stories) (Paperback)
Ragweed by Avi is a great book about a country mouse. He travels to a city called Amperville where he finds new friends and enemies. He and his fellow city mice must avoid two cats (Silversides and Graybar) and their club F.E.A.R. Ragweed meets a band called the Be-Flat Tires and Blinker, who was originally an experimental mouse. I liked this book because it had great pictures so you knew what the mice and cats looked like. It was also good because it had a nice storyline and nice characters. Avi and Brian Floca did a great job.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FANASTIC BOOK !!!!!!!!!!!, June 10, 2003
A Kid's Review
Courage, adventure, determination: If you like these qualities in a book, then you will definitely love Ragweed. By the time you stop reading, you'll be waist deep in the characters own problems.
Ragweed, the main character, is always in trouble. Imagine a run down town filled with mice. Pretty simple, but then put in a group of angry cats, who will take any chance to abolish all mice in the town. F.E.A.R. (Felines Enraged About Rodents). Then things start to get a little harder.
Ragweed, is a simple country mouse, wants to travel the world to see what's beyond his small brook home. So he says good bye to his family and starts his journey. He hops aboard the next train to wherever it goes. Little does he know what's ahead of him.

In this little run down town, he manages to have a little bit of luck on his side. The fist time he encounters F.E.A.R., deadliest worker, Silversides, the president of F.E.A.R., he is lucky enough to stumble onto a mouse's home, who pulls him in just in time. Later he finds out that the name of this mouse is Clutch. He also finds other friends: Dipstick, Lugnut and a timed little mouse called Blinker.

One funny thing that I have noticed from the beginning of Ragweed when he first comes to town is that most of the characters is that all the mice's names are car parts.
If I were to give this book a rating I would give it a ten out of ten. It has everything a book needs: friendship, bravery, determination, adventure, as well as some comedy. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes any kind of animal story at all.
