McGahan involves young people in the reality of colonial life in an intriguing way. Raid at Red Mill is a gripping tale of adventure. It leaves the reader with an eagerness to know more about the early days of our country.

Great historical fiction and book about faith,
By Kurt A. Johnson (North-Central Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Raid at Red Mill (Adventures in America) (Library Binding)
This book is part of the Adventures in America series. Fourteen-year-old Anne Mott's family has been able to avoid most of the trouble swirling around them throughout the American Revolution, but their luck may be running out. A vicious brigand, nominally supporting the British, is in the area, raiding farms that he considers disloyal. And when some family friends are followed back from a secret (and illegal) trading trip to New York City, Anne knows that the brigand is sure to come as punishment. Keeping a cool head, Anne draws courage and resolve from her Quaker faith, and prepares to meet the trouble. This is a simply fantastic book! Author Mary McGahan is to be congratulated on writing a book that is both gripping and uplifting. I loved the way that the main character drew on her faith in a time of trouble. This is a book that is a great work of historical fiction, and a great book about faith, one that I was more than happy to give to my twelve-year-old daughter. She loved this book, and so do I.
