5.0 out of 5 stars Arcade style SHUMUP!!!
This game for the x360 is fantastic. It is finally Actual arcade style graphics that I so love in the arcade cabinet unit, at home on my Xbox360. This game is unbelievable good. Although I still give Raiden Fighter Aces my better score if for the game music. But Raiden 4 still impresses me with the detail in the graphics and gameplay. Both Raiden4 and Raiden Fighter...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good action, poor value.
First of all- two Raiden games in one year for 360?! Please don't wake me up from this. The Raiden series has always been one of my favorites, at least in the vertical arena. They have always been simple to learn and free of gimmicks; challenging and accessible all the same. This one doesn't deviate from the formula a bit, and that's part of the problem. The ships and...

This is a truly valuable addition to anyone's game library. If you like Japanese style shootem up games this is one of the best choices you can make.

When you put the disk in the main menu offers multiple modes, such as arcade mode, 360 Mode, and I think one more.
Each mode offers multiple difficulty settings from very easy to ultimate, which is the best part.

The game appears to be constantly running at 60 frames per second because it is a combination of 3d and 2d graphics.

If you wanted to, it even will rotate the gameplay area if you want to put your tv sideways. Some TVs do that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully enjoyable arcade shooting action, January 11, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Raiden IV (Video Game)
When Raiden Fighter Aces was released for the XBox 360 not too long ago, I was happy to see one of my all time favorite franchises make the leap to next-gen gaming. With Raiden IV, the leap of the franchise continues as the game provides a boat load of fun, old school, shooting action. There's a decent amount of play modes to keep you occupied, and the hi-res graphics are wonderfully rendered as well. If there's any drawbacks to Raiden IV, it's the same brand of drawbacks that accompany every other installment of the Raiden series: the gameplay is in itself shallow, and the game as a whole just isn't long enough. That aside though, the overall package of Raiden IV is lovely regardless, and the inclusion of a CD soundtrack with this Limited Edition is a nice little bonus in itself.

The ships and weapons are carried over from the earliest Raiden games, and some of the levels feel very familiar. Although the graphics are obviously updated compared with the older but previously released Raiden Fighters Aces, it's nothing that couldn't have been handled on Xbox Live Arcade. With the exception of the included soundtrack CD, the graphics are really the only thing Raiden IV has on Aces, and even that's close. Aces simply offers a lot more ships and levels for much less. You do have the option of uploading your game replay to Xbox Live, and watching some of the top players' replays is guaranteed jaw-dropping fun. As always shooter fans, they don't make many of these any more, and it sure beats buying an arcade cabinet. I just hope the next shooter release offers more content for not such a big sting to the wallet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raiden IV - The Absolute Best, July 28, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Raiden IV (Video Game)
Raiden IV is the most recent title in the beloved Raiden franchise. In my opinion, Raiden is the greatest franchise in shoot 'em up history. Not only did I receive one of the best Raiden titles to date with Raiden IV, but there was a soundtrack included in the case, too; you'll definitely want the soundtrack, as it offers some exceptional Raiden IV themes!

Raiden IV offers:

- Super smooth frame-rate performance
- Beautiful 3D visuals on a vertical 2D plane
- One of the finest soundtracks in shooter history
- Lots of replay value
- Great artwork

Raiden IV is a challenging title, but it has many difficulty options for beginners, so don't be afraid to pick up this shoot 'em up classic and have some fun.

The Raiden series has always been interesting as each numbered sequel (I'm not including the Raiden Fighters Series) has pretty much been a slight tweak on the original game. The level graphics and enemy patterns differ from game to game, but the bosses are almost identical. Raiden 4 is no different and you'll notice from the moment you pop in the disk that this is just an updated version of the game you know and love. I have marked down the overall score for this as some may argue that this repetition diminishes the game's value, but as a fan of the series it is something I have come to expect.

The graphics are great and runs wonderful on the XBOX 360 hardware and looks even better if you can turn your TV on its side and play in TATE mode. No online multi-player for those that are wondering (local only) but that is ok as even the slightest hint of lag would lead to instant death in a game like this. However Raiden IV does have online leaderboards allowing me to relive my glory days of fighting to get the highest score in the arcade. In fact you can also download the replays from the top players to see just how they rack up those high numbers.

All in all I found this game to be a great purchase and was worth every penny spent on it. The game was ported with much tender loving care, much more than has been afforded other games in the genre, plus since the game is disc-based I have 1000 gamerpoints to unlock.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Raiden IV, April 30, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Raiden IV (Video Game)
RaidenIV is one of those games you can easily remember or forget as a railshooter of the 90's trying to continue to keep its name as a ongoing classic. But needless to say it holds up to its content and excitement and addictiveness for any player who loves botton mashing, intense eye coordinated motion that leaves you dieing to get through the array of ships and massive bosses that light up the screen filled with energy balls seeming impossible to dodge. Since the release of many spinoffs in consoles RaidenIV holds true to its core design and enhances it with dazzling fire power and precison controls and imensed 3D backdrops to give you a nice HD environmental depth. The Stages are intensely more difficult after stage 1 wich is a big jump from the previous versions released. And the enemy ships and tanks are increased in numbers to give you more intesity to shoot more accurately or dodge faster. The bosses where futuristicly redesigned to look mmore like a sci-fi mecha horror B movie look, but given multiple stage transformations leaving you to drop more bombs than normal to protect yourself from a intense field of energy weapon spray you can not dodge. The game gives you a ample amount of bombs to collect or you can set up the settings to carry a maximum amount of 7.

Overall this game being hard to find or get in local retailers lives up to his name and game play. The AI is stream lined to kill you with all weapons blazing so you better know how to keep your eyes peeled on your ship, becuase if you blink your dead. The bosses are 3x more difficult to defeat and come with multiple stages so make sure you set yur game settings to maximum weapon payload. The only con i have towards the game is screen layout. the verticle screen design with custom borders is quite annoying to me when your use to wide or full screen gaming that fills the screen or your HDtv. But once you start playing you soon forget about the annoyance and try to keep your eyes trained in the center... any other eye direction will get your ship decimated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Close to the arcade, but better, April 10, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Raiden IV (Video Game)
Bought this because it was on sale, and remembered how fun it was in the arcade. The game does a pretty good job of staying true to the original, but with better graphics. If you like the arcade version, can't see why you wouldn't like this one. Best part about it is, it won't cost you a million quarters to win now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Balanced Shoot'em'up, October 11, 2009

This review is from: Raiden IV (Video Game)
I have been waiting for this game ever since it came out in the arcades in 2007 and it was worth the wait. I have been a big fan of shoot'em'ups since I could first pick up a controller and Raiden IV is the best shoot'em'up I have played in a long time. First of all the game is very balanced and is pretty easy for a beginner to pick up and play. Secondly the more you play the more continues you earn which encourages you to improve your skill. Raiden IV is not like most other so called, "Bullet Hell" shooters that saturate shoot'em'up market today which makes this game a lot easier, However bosses tend to put up a huge fight by sending bullets across the screen which may remind you of a bullet hell shooter. This game is also 2 player co-op which makes this game even better. All in all this game is worth the price and is worth playing if you like shoot'em'ups.
