Book Description

0942147065 978-0942147063 November 15, 2000 1St Edition
Packed with dozens of maps and over 100 vintage and current photographs, The Rail Lines of Northern New England chronicles the history of every common carrier rail line built in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont in the 19th and 20th centuries. Each of the 77 chapters tells the story of the rise and fall of a separate line and includes a map detailing the line's relationship to other lines; an all-time station list; and summaries of construction dates, operators, passenger service, and abandonments. State maps at the beginning of the book provide an overview of the lines' locations and a key to the relevant line-by-line chapters.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start, April 10, 2001

This review is from: The Rail Lines of Northern New England : A Handbook of Railroad History (New England Rail Heritage Series) (Paperback)
This book is great for anyone looking for a starting point for historical and geographical information on the railroads of northern New England. Maps of each railroad (as well as certain regions) featured in this book make it easy to locate where a railroad was located, what cities it connected, among other things. I highly recommend this book for model railroaders and railfans, as well as anybody just interested in general history of the New England region.

This review is from: The Rail Lines of Northern New England : A Handbook of Railroad History (New England Rail Heritage Series) (Paperback)
The Rail Lines of Northern New England by Robert M. Lindsell is part of a valuable set of three books published by Branch Line Press about the railroads of New England. I strongly suggest that you buy all of these. The other two books are the Rail Lines of Southern New England by Ronald Dale Karr (the owner of these publications) and Lost Railroads of New England by R. D. Karr. These three books are scholarly and thorough and a must for railroad enthusiasts of this region.
