Six hardback books with the classic Thomas stories,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Railway Series Boxed Set (Hardcover)
Wow these are nice little hardback books and we are really enjoying them. There are six books in the collection and they are about Toby (my personal favorite), Henry, Percy, Gordon, James and, of course, Thomas the Tank Engine.
If you are looking at this collection you, no doubt, are familiar with Rev. Awdry's stories so I will only add that the pictures in this series are nice and the books are a good size for 3 year old hands and the paper seems pretty strong so far, so that none of the pages are either wrinkled yet or torn. A nice way to bridge away from the television series or the tapes into something that is more "useful"...reading! We give it 6 thumbs up. Mom, dd, and ds.

The reverend's original stories, well packaged,

My three year old loves all things Thomas and he enjoys these stories as well. As the original stories they are less sugar-coated than the later picture books. Most focus on a train who misbehaves then gets his comeuppance. The illustrations are beautiful.
The physical packaging is quite nice. Both the box and the books have stood up to pummeling by my son. The stories included are: * Thomas and Gordon, Thomas' Train, Thomas and the Trucks, Thomas and the Breakdown Train * Coal, The Flying Ripper, Gordon's Whistle, Percy and the Trousers, Henry's Sneeze * Toby and the Stout Gentleman, Thomas in Trouble, Dirty Objects, Mrs. Kyndley's Christmas * James and the Top-Hat, James and the Boot-lace, Troublesome Trucks, James and the Express * Off the Rails, Leaves, Down the Mine, Paint Pots and Queens * Percy and the Signal, Duck Takes Charge, Percy and Harold, Percy's Promise

My 3 year old son loves all the books in this set! The books are hard covered and quite sturdy and the size is very good for kids to hold. The stories in all the books are not too long and fun to read. Although some of the words in the stories are less commonly used words even for adult, they didn't cause my son to lose interest in the stories. Highly recommended to parents if your kids love Thomas & Friends.

Wonderful little books,

My 2-1/2 year old loves these books. We read at least one of them just about every day. They are very sturdy, and have survived repeated hurls across the room when I'm ready to stop reading, but he's not. Most of the stories are featured in the "Thomas: The Early Years" DVD series with Ringo Starr and some of the DVDs with George Carlin, and so are very familiar. I highly recommend them to little Thomas fans!

Amazing Railroad Adventures,
This review is from: Railway Series Boxed Set (Hardcover)
These are the books I grew up with-small books that contained wonderful pictures. I read them to my own children, and they in turn are reading them to their children. Rev. Audry's pictures have a charm lost in the present day Thomas The Train tv series. These stories benefit from Rev. Audry's original illustrations. These stories are gentle and amusing .In a sometimes cold world , they invite you in to the gentler, kinder, and infinitely warmer Earth celebrated in these stories . Thomas the Tank Engine, Gordon and many others live on in these stories. My father was a railroad buff- so I suppose it was natural that I should have enjoyed these stories so much. I think that anyone with similar interests would enjoy them for their children or grandchildren. I think that the number of children who go on railroad adventures everywhere would find these books an added enrichment.

I bought these books for my 3 year old die-hard Thomas fan a couple of months ago. He absolutely loves them! He has me reading them to him over and over again. The books are well illustrated. The stories are interesting and we learned some things about the Sodor railway that we didn't know before. I now use these books to encourage him to learn to read. Definitely a good investment.

These are the original stories, and SO resemble the TV shows that my son was addicted to for a few years. These were among the first books he was able to read to himself. Stories are great--just the show, each ends with a little moral lesson, the characters are likable and not too complex, the whole thing is really just so honest and timeless and wonderful for little ones. Can't recommend this set enough. Even though my son has moved on to dinos, LEGOs, and action heros, this boxed set still has pride of placement on his bookshelves.

These books were a BIG hit for my son's fourth birthday. He adores anything Thomas! I like them because they have great illustrations from Rev. Awdry. Another great characteristic of this set is that when the books are all lined up inside the box, there is a different segment of a train and coaches on each book spine and together they make a completed 'picture'. The only semi-complaint I have is that the books aren't quite as big as I had hoped they would be and some of the pages don't have full illustrations, but segments. However, overall I (and my son) are very pleased with the purchase and I would buy them again!

My son loves his Railway Series,

I bought this set for my son's second birthday. He is a through and through "choo choo" fan and we needed more reading material for storytime at night after the local libraries inventory gave up. We like the number of stories (even though he insists on sticking to his favorites over and over again), the classic drawings (not the digitalized comic pictures) and the story content.
I was a bit surprised by the rather small format of the books only 5x6.5 inches each. I would have preferred a bigger format, but it seemingly does not matter to my child. I expect that we will get much more use out of them for the next months to come.
