This book is excellent value for money and is filled with good information and color photos, some of them spectacular. In some cases, such as the discussion of how track is currently constructed, a good line drawing with labels would have been much better than a thousand words of descriptions. And I would have liked to see more on equipment of the steam era; most of this book focuses on current technology. But definitely worth the money!

A great probe into the unique machinery used to keep the rails in line and ON line.

Great book about a subject not usually covered well. The book goes into great detail about the different tools and equipment used to build and maintain a railroad. The photography by Brian Solomon is awesome as usual. Solomon is without a doubt one of the best rail photographers there is. This book is a must have for any rail fan. I doubt there will ever be a book about the subject that will even come close to the detail and photos here.

I am a model railroader who wanted to leran more about the equipment used to maintain and repair the real life railroads. If that the type of information your lpooking for this book is excellent.
