Product Description

mTower logo

Free up 65% of your Macbook's footprint and cool it at the same time with mTower. The unique floating design allows usable space underneath the Macbook while increasing airflow all around. When used together with an external monitor like the Apple Thunderbolt Display, the mTower gives you a sleek Macbook-desktop setup.

space saving mTower
Space saver and clean set up

External Monitor Complement

Super charged Thunderbolt desktop

Give your Thunderbolt display and Macbook a clutter-free and yet functional set up it deserves. With mTower, you can now have a awesome huge display and a roomy desktop.

Rock solid

mTower is made from a one-piece aluminum with high quality sand blasted anodized finish to perfectly match your Mac. You'll appreciate the smooth and flush surface, unmarred by unsightly screws.

Coffee spill proof

The mTower elevates the Macbook from the desk making accidental coffee spills on your notebook a thing of the past.

Functional Accessory

Heat Sink

The all aluminum material enables the mTower to serve as a heat sink. Aluminum's high heat conductivity first draws heat away from the notebook. It cools by facilitating better air flow and convection all around the notebook. mTower has special air gaps within the holder to allow cold air to flow upwards. A cooler notebook is also a much quieter notebook as it reduces the need for the notebook's internal fan to kick in.

Unclutter Your Desktop

I purchased a large display to use w my Retina Macbook Pro, and needed to free up some desk space. Using the rMBP in clamshell mode was the answer, with a Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. The Rain Design Tower was the answer. Yet upon reading many of the reviews here, I was a bit discouraged to find that I could not use this stand w a hard shell (in my case, a Speck). Being the handy guy I am, I figured I could make it work somehow, so I ordered it anyway.

The case is well-packaged and beautiful, a very nice complement to my rMBP and Apple display. The stand comes with a series of cushioned inserts of varying thicknesses, labeled for whichever Apple laptop you have. Simply peel off the inserts and place them in the stand where shown. Using all 4 inserts labeled "Retina Macbook Pro" would have required the removal of the case. Solution? Use 2 rMBP inserts, and 2 thinner ones (in my case, I think I used the ones labeled Macbook Air, but don't quote me on that). The rMBP is held completely stable and it looks great. Granted, when I remove it from the stand, I have to hold the stand with one and and give the laptop a gentle tug to release it, but that's a minor irritation I'm happily trading for all this extra desk space. The right-side USB, HDMI, and smart card ports are now much easier to access as well.

Overall, this is absolutely one of the best purchases I've made. Well-made, looks great, stable as Gibraltar, and allows me to reclaim my precious desk space. Highly recommended.

Honestly, I didn't think I'd be as impressed with this thing as I am. At first when I looked at this I thought, '$50 for a piece of aluminum? Are you kidding me?' But once I looked at similar/competing products, I decided this was the best option (for reasons I'll explain below) and after receiving and using it I seriously don't think I could be happier with this product. Short version? If you want a stand to keep your laptop in while you're not using it (or using it with an external display), this is absolutely the best thing to buy.

For reference, I'm using this stand with a 15" Retina MacBook Pro

Sturdy and completely stable, this stand does its job perfectly. The base has an adequately large surface area so that it will NOT just tip over unless you are pulling some serious shenanigans around your computer. It's also got a nice heft to it; you could almost call it heavy. On top of being a great design stability-wise, I think it looks really nice. It has a simple, functional aesthetic to it. I love the flat base surface, as it's a great place to set my phone and/or other small stuff I want around. And that's just the metal piece...

The rubberurethane (or whatever) pieces on this product really complete the package. Whatever magic the material is made of, it's perfect. They placed it in all the appropriate places too, so there are no surfaces that your computer should normally contact that aren't covered with this stuff unless you're doing it wrong. It's not that mushy rubber that feels like used chewing gum (and usually dries out, becoming worthless over time), but it's not 'hard' rubber either. It's firm enough not to lose shape and let things get wobbly, but soft enough to cradle the somewhat fragile aluminum products it's meant to hold.

Great design and love the way it looks and fits on my desk, but I have a protective Kuzy plastic shell protective case on my 13" Macbook Pro, but the Rain stand doesn't accommodate a MacBook with a shell case. I had to cut down the rubber gripper on the stand with a pen knife to accommodate the shell casing. Such a great design that it felt blasphemous. Sorry Rain Design!

I trying to think of negative things to write about for this product, I was hard pressed to come up with anything. It's just a stand for holing a laptop vertically, which it does as advertised (I'm using a MacBook Air with it). From that standpoint of build quality and design, I really can't knock that either. It's solid aluminum and the design is really nice.

It does have small footprint, but is extremely stable. I've never had it even being to tip over when occasionally knocked. The stand also comes with various rubber pads that get inserted into the stand to match the width of various types of MacBooks. This makes a very secure and snug fit. If you select the correct pads to use, there is no change your MacBook is coming out of this stand unless you grab it and pull it out.

So it is top notch in materials, build quality, design, and function. Even though the price seems high for a something that just holds a laptop, I have to say I feel like I am getting what I paid for, so the price is justified.

Very sturdy and comes with a variety of high quality pads to make for a very snug fit. Tested with early 2009 17'' macbook pro and a mid-2013(?) 15'' macbook pro. Computer does not run hot in closed clamshell mode in this stand, although it doesn't run significantly cooler either. Attractive design (very subjective though...) and a space saver!
