Editorial Reviews

From Kirkus Reviews

This cumulative picture-puzzle book in the Look Who Lives In series introduces many animals of the rain forest, beginning with a large red spider and ending with a sniffing anteater. The text describes one animal, center stage in the illustrations, and then makes a teasing reference to the next animal: ``Butterfly! It has beautiful blue and yellow wings. Clinging to a tiny stem, something is looking at the butterfly. It's a gleaming, glisteningtree frog!'' The last part of the sentence appears on the next page. Children will enjoy spotting the newcomer and guessing which animal is next. The rain forest in every spread is appealingly lush, bordered in pure white, although the plants and animals are not drawn to any particular scale. The book concludes with a map that indicates the rain forests of the world and brief facts on the animals that appeared in the illustrations. A good introduction to a habitat that is frequently a part of early childhood curriculum. (Picture book. 5-8) -- Copyright ©1999, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.
