Most excellent Bossa Nova,

Another great reissue in the Verve By Request series is the 1966 US debut album by Brazilian Organist Walter Wanderley. Wanderley is supported on this album by guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, Urbie Green on trombone, Jose Marino on bass, and Claudio Slon(Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim) on drums. "Rain Forest" features the classic "Summer Samba" and other standouts like "Cry Out Your Sadness", and "It's Easy To Say Goodbye". The time passed so quickly listening to this that I had to listen to it again immediately. Excellent remastering job on this reissue also. Hopefully Verve is considering reissuing his other Verve and A&M albums domestically.

Where "Summer Samba" lives....,
By
This review is from: Rain Forest (Audio CD)
Walter's first U.S. recording features the platinum-selling "Summer Samba" played as only he could play it, along with nice arrangements of "Call Me", "Song of the Jet", "Beach Samba" and others. It is easy to see why American audiences fell in love with his sound, including myself who first heard this when it came out in 1966 when I was twelve years old. I remember how much the radio played the single, and my first LP wore out, totally. It was replaced and the CD reissue was bought. I still never tire of listening to it. The only thing missing from both the LP and the CD Reissue are the credits of who is who in the WW Trio: WW, Jose Marino (bass), and Claudio Slon (drums).

RAIN FOREST BY WALTER WANDERLY,

If you enjoyed the bosa nova phase back in the 60's you'll truley enjoy this album. I orginally bought the album on reel to reel tape when I was in Vietnam. As soon as I knew it was available in CD format I had to buy it.
It is upbeat and makes you feel good. I enjoy Walter's style and the bosa nova beat.

"An outstanding CD",

I recently purchased Walter Wanderley's CD "Rain Forest" which was reissued by Verve Records in 1998 and it is truly an excellent CD. Every song on the CD is well-crafted and the recording sounds terrific eventhough it was originally released in 1966. Among the CD's highlights are; "Summer Samba"(which was Wanderley's first U.S. hit), "Beloved Melancholy", and the impeccable, "The Girl From Ipanema". Whether you are a fan of organ music, jazz, or Brazilian bossa-nova you will really enjoy this CD and it will likely become a collection favorite.

Enjoyable Rediscovery,

I was amazed that I could find on a CD format the music of an album I had many years back but had misplaced. It was a most enjoyable redescovery. This music is as appealing now as it was when I first heard it forty years ago. To me, it is latin jazz at its best.

The records cover is so cool, you have to buy this, of course then you get Walter's classic Summer Samba, Girl from Ipanema, Rain, and other bossa nova classics, lightly swung by Walter at the organ with his jazz combo. Romatic, whistful, kitchy, and untra-cool. This is a classic amd a MUST have cd!!!

The greatest organ player,

This album is the very best of Walter's music, this is a Bossanova music player. Call this genre of music light jazz is very insulting, cause it is not Jazz, this Bossanova music born in Brazil, with the great Tom Jobim, is not a kind of jazz, It is a completely genre of music. I recommend this album at the most, cause it will makes you feel in the Rio's beach in a summer afternoon...

Getting to know Walter,

At the time that Walter Wanderley was a success in Brazil, in the early sixties, I was a kid and never heard of him. When he erupted in the American music scene with Summer Samba, I was a young man interested in Beatles and Stones. Wanderley passed by me and I didn't notice him. Recently my attention was caught by the Lounge thing, Tiki Hut, bachelor pad and related stuff. This is where I found about Wanderley, a kind of master of the so called Space Age Pop. The other day i found an import CD of him called Rain Forest. I've got completely stunned by his sensual and yet delicate Brazilian sound. It's never too late to discover a great and very special musician. Now I can't get enough of him.

A Great CD to Lounge to!,

Walter Wanderley made a wonderful contribution to Brazilian bossa nova music with his own unique twist. He is best known as a superb organist, who helped fusion that into the cool, swaying sounds of bossa nova. This is truly a delightful CD. If you enjoy this album, be sure to check out any of his other ones. They are equally as good.
