Sharkey's acting makes this thriller memorable.
The plot and suspense are only so-so, but Ray Sharkey turned what might have been an ordinary world-weary, alcoholic cop role into a textured character with interesting nuances of toughness, sweetness, and struggle against hopeless odds. This performance profoundly touching without sentimentalism. If only Beecroft had played the killer with comparable power, this could...

I always felt Ray Sharkey was a terrific actor, his portrayal in this movie was incredible. The movie starts out as a great mystery, weaving in different characters to keep you from guessing who the "Rain Killer" actually is but peters out in the end with a ridiculous ending.

I have no objectivity. I wrote the script for this movie. It was so much less than it might have been. And yet, Ray Sharkey (in one of his last roles) brought something to the character that no one could write, something deep and tragic that almost saves the film from "compleat scrap-heap". Hard to find, and expensive, no video library is complete without it. RVC

This performance profoundly touching without sentimentalism. If only Beecroft had played the killer with comparable power, this could have been a fascinating good-guy-vs-his-demon dual. As it is, for anyone interested in character acting, it's a real feast. END
