What A Super Woman!,
By John Savoy "International Film Maker" (California,) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rain on My Wings (Paperback)
I have been an Evelyn Horan fan for a long time now and this book is just one reason why. She truly loves children of all ages and enjoys passing her life's adventures on to others. Both a teacher and a saint!
Sorry Evelyn that is has taken me so long to do a review of this book. I have been out of town on location and just recently returned to the States. Hope you understand. I enjoyed your book very much. Keep them coming! John Savoy International Film Maker California

An excellent book for teens,

This review is from: Rain on My Wings (Paperback)
Having problems at home with her mom and stepdad, Linda leaves California in search of her Aunt Ruby in West Texas. Arriving at her aunt's house, Linda thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to get her life back in order and not worry about anything. Linda's mother gave her permission to stay at Aunt Ruby's for a while and so she got settled in.
Linda made friends easily, becoming the popular girl from California. She joined the cheerleading squad and had a date for the senior prom. While everything was going great at school, things weren't so great at home. Aunt Ruby's husband, J.R. was always teasing and touching Linda in uncomfortable ways. Linda was afraid to say anything to her aunt, but had a feeling Ruby knew what was going on. Ruby had become depressed over her withered looks and broken teeth. Life on a farm was hard work and Aunt Ruby had suffered the consequences. Ruby knew that J.R. was cheating on her with a younger, prettier woman from across the way, but loved her husband and wanted to make things work. Linda tried staying away from her uncle as much as she could, but one night everything changed for Linda. The situation with her uncle took a turn for the worse and even Aunt Ruby was powerless. Linda does not expect the events that follow. The author writes a most powerful story about abuse within a household and behind closed doors. This story can really open your eyes to what's happening all over the world. Set in the 1950s in West Texas, you really get a feel for the characters. Ms. Horan gets deep into the characters' minds and pulls out their innermost thoughts. A good read.

A teen problem novel that is a great adventure story.,

Linda's home life is intolerable since her mother has remarried, and so she decides to visit her beloved Aunt Ruby in West Texas. She finds that life is hard on a dirt-poor cotton farm in West Texas since there are no modern conviences, and she didn't count on the lecherous advances of Uncle J.R. Linda loves school and her new friends, but she just doesn't know how to handle the increasingly persistent J. R. and the unhappiness of Aunt Ruby. This wonderful coming-of-age novel by Evelyn Horan is a departure from Evelyn's previous series about Jeannie, A Texas Frontier Girl, written for younger girls. This story is more mature and might help teens deal with sexual harassment by a male relative in their own lives, and a great adventure story for everyone else.
