Book Description

August 12, 1985
The tradition of composing spontaneous songs that express spiritual understanding has existed in Tibet for centuries. Over one hundred of these profound songs are found in this collection of the work of some of the greatest teachers of the Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. With their vivid imagery and deep insight, the songs in this book communicate in a very direct way profound and timeless insight. The Rain of Wisdom is read aloud in its entirety by Tibetan Buddhists every year on the New Year. It has been reprinted in cloth in response to demand by Buddhist practitioners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs of Realisation, August 16, 2000
This review is from: The Rain of Wisdom (Hardcover)
This book contains translations of the songs of realisation of the master of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, including the Karmapas. The collection is traditional and is usually chanted by the monks and nuns once a year in Kagyu-monasteries. As such, the songs have an important place in the spiritual literary tradition of Tibet. The songs are beautiful and very inspiring, usually stressing the importance of a spiritual teacher (guru) and the actual practice of meditation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best butter churned from the milk ocean of Dharma, February 12, 2009
This review is from: The Rain of Wisdom (Hardcover)
As said by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in Foreword: "Students are also advised to read this book for instructions when their life is filled with disruption and uncertainty and neurosis. Even reading only one passage is better than going to a psychiatrist or taking a dose of aspirin. This is not a myth."

The more I read, the deeper I am touched. The poems are so powerful and helpful for their genuineness! My deepestappreciation to all Kagyu forefathers as well as Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and his translation committee!
