Rain-X works so good that at speeds over 50MPH, there is no need to even USE my front windshield wipers. The "older than dirt" Time Traveller  |  32 reviewers made a similar statement

5.0 out of 5 stars If you drive, you need this product February 23, 2007
By N. King
I have used Rain-X for over ten years now. I am still amazed at what it does for glass. The spray bottles or wipes have worked best for me. Do not apply or buff with a cloth you intend to keep as the chemicals degrade fabrics. Cheap paper towels do just fine. Some people complain about glare after applying it, but a good buffing or the next car wash or rain shower will take care of any places you missed.
Windshield, side glass and even my mirrors are treated three to four times a year. No, it is not intended to replace using wipers, but any consistent cruising speeds over 30 mph and water rolls right off.
Try not to spray on painted surfaces & rubber trim as the directions say. I have experimented with spraying rubber scraps & plastics, it degrades and dries rubber trim fast due to the evaporatives in Rain-X.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised July 18, 2011

I was skeptical about this product. Mostly about it actually working but also some of the reviews mentioning this being dangerous. After reading various items around the net and all the reviews here, I ordered a bottle. It came along with 2 Rain-X wipers I ordered for our new (used) Dodge Durango.

I put on the new wipers. I washed the windshield with a 3M non-scratch scrubbie using water with some dish soap. I then dried it completely with a towel. I applied the product correctly and have no experienced ANY light issues at night. As nature would have it, the very next day, it rained here in Minnesota. Perfect! In city driving, you do see the water beading effect but the windspeed is not enough to push it up and off the windshield. I definately used the wipers less. Once I got on the interstate, amazing. I hesitate to say this since someone will do this, crash and sue me, but you could almost NOT use your wipers. It's that good. Really! Driving 60 MPH, the rain literally hit the windshield and beaded off. With my experience, I would have to say the product works. I think the issues stem from how to correctly apply it. Think of this stuff as 'wax' for your windshield. It's not window cleaner. By this, I mean you have to apply and buff it off. You cannot just spray and wipe. It will leave streaks and cause issues with light refraction. The easiest way to know if you have it applied correctly is to look at it in the light. If you see streaks, keep buffing. My no-fail method for application is:

- Start on one side of the windshield (driver or passenger), using a stool helps reach the entire area
- Lift wipers up off windshield
- Clean windshield with non-scratch scrubbie, dish soap and water
- Dry (or let dry) the windshield completely
- Use 1 paper towel folded into quarters
- Spray 4-6 sprays on one end of the paper towel
- Start at the bottom of the windshield and apply like you would waxing a car (circular motions, overlapping) while working your way
to the edge of the windshield moving fairly quickly (it just needs to apply the product, you are not cleaning the window)
- Move up the windshield, starting again in the center working your way to the edge
- You should re-apply 1-2 squirts about 3/4 the way up the windshield
- Repeat on the other side (driver or passenger) while the side you just did dries
- Repeat on the entire windshield

Now for the most important part!

- Using 1 paper towel folded into quarters, do the exact same steps above but do not apply Rain-X. However, when you apply pressure, use more than you would normally. Work your way from center to edge, rotating the towel after 2 passes.
- Do the above step 2 (maybe even 3, depending on windshield, how strong you buff, towels used, temperature, wind, etc.) more times using new towels each time.

When complete, you should see ZERO streaks on the windshield when viewed at a angle in the light. If you see any, buff them using a clean paper towel or cloth. This product literally makes your windshield feel like it has a layer of teflon on it.

If you have any streaking or light issues at night, you have 1) Applied too much product or 2) Have not used enough pressure while buffing or c) Did not buff completely.

I'm sold on this stuff and will continue to use it!

5.0 out of 5 stars LIMIT STREAKING October 12, 2005
By Lee
Great product. Used it for 5 years now. Limit the streaking by two ways: Using a spray bottle, lightly mist a paper towel then buff the glass after product dries. After streaks are detected just use a dry cotton cloth (towel) and buff the streaks out. Not that difficult to have streak free glass. But the streaks will be annoying during night time traveling.
