It does melt the ice off the wind shield. But the rain x part isn't to impressive. it doesn't really bead the water off the windshield like regular rain x does. Also theres the annoying hazy glare that windsheiled water dispersers have when you use your wipers. If you don't want that then just get a de icer that doesn't have rain x in it.

I remember using these spray can de-icers all the time as a kid, but I can't find them locally any more, so I went through Amazon. They're not cheap, but luckily I live in California, so I don't need it that often, a can will get me through a Winter or two.

This stuff works pretty well, and the little scraper on the cap is durable enough to be useful when going back around to the first window you sprayed and getting rid of the now loosened/melting ice.
