3.0 out of 5 stars Great Photos... fluffy content
I absolutely loved the Pinkeys' book, Shades of Black. It really gives children an understanding of the varying physical characteristics among Blacks, lends a positive vocabulary, and gives children someone to identify with.

This spin-off just recycles the ideas of Everybody's Beautiful and The World is a Rainbow. There is a poster child for each ethnicity...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rainbow of Color and Humanity, August 2, 2002

This review is from: A Rainbow All Around Me (Hardcover)
A joyful group of multiethnic children guide young readers through the bright, jazzy colors of the rainbow. On each double spread page, a child from one culture shares their fun focusing on a color. The rich, creative text and terrific photographs bring these colors vividly to life. A little boy from Jordan is dressed in a tuxedo, ready to dance with the words, "Tappin', Rhythm, Moving feet, Dancin' to the beat." Every few pages, a multicultural band of children wave flags of color, pointing to a rainbow painted with the text, "Colors are you. Colors are me." The succinct and poetic style of the text as well as the outstanding artwork and friendly faces will appeal to youngsters from preschool through first grade, while gently allowing them to consider the rainbow of humanity. This provides a great jumping board to discuss feelings and emotions connected to ethnic diversity.

As always with the Pinkneys, the pictures in this book are wonderful. My little ones really likes this book and I've book copies of all of their other books, too.

My daughter's Pre-K has this book and it is looked at so often that it is tattered and torn. My daughter wanted one for Xmas so "Santa" got her this one. I think I will buy a second one for the school. Very nice, easy to read, excellent photos and color and nice message arout us all being different colors...yet all the same. Don't hesitate to buy this one for sure!

This spin-off just recycles the ideas of Everybody's Beautiful and The World is a Rainbow. There is a poster child for each ethnicity and an association with a color. The children are pictured wearing their color... not by stereotype.

This book is cute enough, but it is pretty fluffy.
