5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, the complete Series!
After picking up the Rainbow Brite Star Stealer movie DVD, I kept thinking...oh when oh when will they finally release the complete series of this cartoon on DVD. 2.0 out of 5 stars Time passes slowly in Rainbow Land.
This review only applies to ASIN:B000GNVPZ0.

I hate to say it, but this doesn't look like an official release.

The fact that it's only available through the market place is one clue, "This page was created by a seller", no region coding, & "US import" (we import to ourselves?) are other clues.

To my knowledge DIC only recently...

Well, my prayers were finally answered. Thanks to PopCorn Films, the show is finally released in its entirety. It was a thrill to relive my childhood memories again. From the Color Kids to Lurky and Murky, all the great memories came rushing back. The dvd comes in a vibrant cute case (sort of like the He-Man & She Ra Christmas Special). There are 2 dvds in the set. The picture and sound are awesome. Each disc has the following episodes:

#1
1. Beginning of Rainbowland-Part I
2. Beginning of Rainbowland-Part II
3. Peril in The Pits
4. Mighty Monstromurk Menace-Part I
5. Mighty Monstromurk Menace-Part II

7. Mom
8. Rainbow Night
9. Star Sprinkled
10. Chasing Rainbows

To my knowledge DIC only recently reacquired the distribution rights, & they should have contracts with SHOUT for distribution.

That's why other DIC gems have been showing up on dvd finally; C.O.P.S., Heathcliff, Inspector Gadget, Super Mario show, etc.

If you'd like to see more of the same, then wait a while longer for an official release. If corporations don't make a profit, then they stop selling. Then all you'll ever have is crappy old vhs recordings.

You can also expect a price tag smaller than $30 from the official release, since it's only 13 episodes.

I wouldn't know if this or the official release would have the live action or story book videos, & I'd expect niether does, but it would make for some nice extras at least.

I have not purchased this from the seller, so I can only guess the quality is the same as the foriegn dvds that were released.

Keep an eye on rainbowbrite dot net, Katy will clue you in when an official dvd gets released.

DIC only JUST got the rights back a few months ago, so it might be close to a year before we see Rainbow Brite on store shelves, but you can buy the movie if you haven't already.

If you are too impatient & really want this dvd, then at least make sure you still buy the official release when it is finally available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rainbow Brite Has FINALLY Arrived, August 20, 2006
This review is from: Rainbow Brite Special Collector's Edition (DVD)
After picking up the Rainbow Brite Star Stealer movie DVD, I kept thinking to myself, "will they ever release the complete series of Rainbow Brite on DVD?" Well, my prayers were finally answered. Thanks to PopCorn Films, the show has finally come to DVD. It was a thrill to relive my childhood memories again. I saw it when I was younger and COMPLETLY fell in love with this cartoon. It's great for kids and once you see it you'll want to re-watch it over & over, no matter how old you are!! From the Color Kids to Lurky and Murky, all the great memories came rushing back. The dvd comes in a sleek case (sort of like the He-Man & She Ra Christmas Special). There are 2 dvds in the set. The picture and sound are awesome. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS DVD.. infact if you do not have it in your collection now then you don't truely have a good DVD collection!

Each disc has the following episodes:

Disc 1:

1. Beginning of Rainbowland-Part I

A little girl named Wisp comes to a desolate dark land to save it. She is on a mission to find the "sphere of light."

2. Beginning of Rainbowland-Part II

The Evil One threatens Murky and Lurky saying he wants the belt. Murky introduces his majesty to his new weapon, the Super Gloom Machine.

3. Peril in The Pits

Rainbow visits the world she must protect, the Earth. There she meets Brian, a boy who needs some friendly encouragement about him.

4. Mighty Monstromurk Menace-Part I

5. Mighty Monstromurk Menace-Part II

Red Butler and Brian go to save Rainbow. Murky throws the bottle with Rainbow in it away. Red Butler w/ Romeo and Brain w/ Twink go up the wild rapids. Rainbow magically pops out of the bottle. Then she meets up with Red's sprite Romeo and Starlite. Then they go up aganist the big evil Monstromurk.

6. Invasion of Rainbowland

Wajah is a friendly alien who crashed his spaceship in Rainbowland one day. The color kids offered to fix his spaceship to take him back home.

Disc #2

7. Mom

Murky Dismal's mother decides to pay Murky a visit. Wacky fun ensues.

8. Rainbow Night

Moonglo is the beautifier of the night. She and her Sprite, Nite Sprite, have the responsibility of making the moon and stars shine brightly at night and make people happy even when they can't see bright colors. Murky & Lurky capture her in attempt to remove the colors. Rainbow and Co. attempt to save her.

A conniving traveling salesman, Plock arrived to the Color Cave. He traded 'Magic Color Crystal Seeds" to Twink in exchange for the Color Cave.

Everyone prepares for the Sprite Fair an annual event with games and rides. There is a horse race that Starlite Skydancer and On-X always enter and naturally Starlite wins every year. 2.0 out of 5 stars OK, but could be better, June 16, 2009

This review is from: Rainbow Brite Special Collector's Edition (DVD)
The DVD is called Rainbow Brite Special Collector's Edition. This is very misleading....yes all the episodes are on two discs, but the quality was not that greatest. The audio sounds like it was recorded off an old VHS where is sometimes cracks and squeaks in the audio part. Also the song for the ending credits is not what I remember listening to as a little child...matter of fact I have the first two episodes recorded on VHS from the early 80's and it sounds a lot better than what I got. All in all it seems like this was originally recorded onto VHS from airing on TV and then recorded onto DVD, with the title "Special Collector's Edition".

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad there is a DVD out even if it is poorly made, July 6, 2007
This review is from: Rainbow Brite Special Collector's Edition (DVD)
This DVD was poorly made, the menus and stuff were beautiful, but the episodes just didn't have that "retroness" to them, as in the picture quality seemed kind of dimmed down. I have some episodes on a DVD that had better picture quality that kept its "retroness". The DVD would freeze up in some parts, but other than that it did play great. The audio could have been better too. I had to turn the volume way up in order to listen to it.

However, this DVD will last me until there is an official release of the whole series.

Problems, problems, problems!!! First it came late then the first dvd wouldn't even play! The second dvd played somewhat better but froze on it's own every once in awhile and would freeze when I tried to go back or move ahead. This was an overpriced rip off!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good!, August 16, 2006

This review is from: Rainbow Brite Special Collector's Edition (DVD)
This DVD brought back alot of memories I forgotten since childhood. Especially the Monstromurk episodes, those were really funny. They also include The Beginning of Rainbow Land parts 1 & 2, which is great for people who are new to the series and not familiar with the backstory.

There is some audio issues, however, given that DIC never has given an official release. My guess is that the episodes were copied from old VHS tapes of Rainbow Brite. If you remember VHS tapes, they weren't known for retaining their quality all that well.

I think this is very good, given that this is a unofficial release. It's a shame DIC didn't officially re-release the original Rainbow Brite episodes, I guess they'll feel pretty bad realizing that POPcorn films is making the money off of it. I also don't think DIC can sue, because the copyright on the original episodes wasn't renewed. I mean, if it was, then they probaly would sue.

I couldn't find a site for POPcorn films, so if anyone from that company reads this. Great job, perhaps you could try to find other 80's videos and reformat them to DVD. Like original Ninja Turtles, and original Strawberry Shortcake. Also get a website going when you do, even if it's just listing what's available. I do think you have a great opportunity to take command of this niche' market.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, August 5, 2006
This review is from: Rainbow Brite Special Collector's Edition (DVD)
I received this in the mail about a week ago. I thought this might not have been an official release. The song used in the DVD isn't the original to the cartoon. My mom would tape then for me while I was at school in kindergarten. I still have three episodes from when she taped them. The original song for the credits started out with "Rainbow Brite see the shining light...." The picture was okay, but the sound wasn't all that good. It sounded like the track on a VHS tape when you first start playing a recording back and the VCR hasn't adjusted the tape yet. I don't know if that explains it correctly. I was soooooo excited when I saw this, because I've been waiting for this to come out, but was disappointed after watching the episodes. I will definitely be buying the official release for Rainbow Brite. I hope they model the official DVD to the He-Man and She-Ra DVD's.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Show!, February 7, 2008
By
This review is from: Rainbow Brite Special Collector's Edition (DVD)
This is a great 80's show. The quality is very much like watching a VHS tape. It would have been nice if it had been digitally remastered. The color sometimes goes quite light. All things considered I am SO HAPPY to be able to share the adventures of Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids with my own children. My near 4 year old son asks to watch this DVD every day.
