Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Based on the books by children's author Marcus Pfister, the adventures of the Rainbow Fish and Dazzle the Dinosaur are brought to life through animation. The Rainbow Fish tells the story of a beautiful fish so mesmerized by his own sparkling scales that he fails to realize how his vanity compromises his friendships. In Dazzle the Dinosaur, Dazzle and his pal Maia take on the mean Dragonsaurus to win back their home. Featuring songs and quaintly drawn characters, the two shorts teach lessons about sharing and courage. At 15 minutes apiece, these animated cartoons have a wholesome message to impart, they're not condescending to their kids & family audience, and they make for a great rainy-day diversion. --Shannon Gee

3.0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Adaptation of the Book, December 21, 1999
By
Stuff (California, United States) - See all my reviews
I felt that the video was a poor adaptation of the lovely story by Marcus Pfister. In the book, the fish is naively vain, too wrapped up in himself to realize that he is alienating others. In the video, he is outrageously mean and rude, making the redemption story at the end unbelievable. I had to hide the video because my toddler was learning some very rude phrases from it. In addition, there is a gratuitously scary segment in the middle that wasn't in the book and that did nothing for the storyline.

4.0 out of 5 stars A first grade teacher's opinion, April 16, 2001
By
I bought this video two years ago and have found that the children really love it. I show it on rainy days for recess, and it has served to spark many valuable conversations about the morals discussed, interested the children in reading the other books in the series, and interested them in a wonderful card game that has been produced to go with the story. They love both stories and want to watch them over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars We loved it!, June 12, 1999
By A Customer
We bought this video on fluke and have absolutelyloved it. My kids are 3 & 5 and watch it all the time, and really seem to understand the morals in the two stories. It's a wonderful, low pressure way of sharing values with kids in a subtle and artistic manner.
