A True PAGE TURNER,

The book definately left me LONGING for more!! I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next to the characters. I am the mother of 2 young children and I don't have a lot of time for leisure reading. I found it hard to put down, I was reading every free moment I could find. It's a heartfelt story that will make you laugh as well as cry. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel. Toy Styles tells a great story and leaves you wanting more.

Magnificent...,

I picked this gem of a book up some time ago at Barnes & Nobles (of all places), and I literally finished it in a day! Although a quick read, I simply loved it. Styles tells a superb story, broken down into small, digestible sections that all fit together depicting a phenomenal tale of personal growth. Socrates philosophically beseeched the world to `Know Thyself', and this is a story that shows the precarious path some young girls take toward womanhood. Following the contemporary pop trend of trilogies, Styles is making us wait for the remaining two courses of this perfect meal.

Wish I Read This Sooner,

My 26 year old daughter asked me to read this novel to help me understand what she's going through right now. And at first I was skeptical considering the title and the content. But the author managed to bring to light some issues that plague young women who are dealing with their sexuality, as well as some issues that concern us as parents. It was a delightful read and I found myself finishing it in one day because it was very interesting. I anticipate the sequel and I look forward to finding out what happens to Evelyn and her mother. Can they move beyond this to salvage their relationship? I have to know!! Great Job!!

In Tears!!!,

Miss Styles!!! I picked this book up a a local bookstore in Baltimore after seeing you on TV. I'm not going to lie, I'm a serious reader and was hoping that it would be a little bigger when I bought it. But my reasoning was because I enjoyed it so much, that I didn't want the story or your characters to end.
When is the sequel coming out? This book had me wanting more from you. Although there were some errors, it certainly didn't take from the storyline and the plot. Without spoiling it for others, I loved in the end how Tammy accepted Evelyn just as she was. She was so terrible throughout the book, that I was sure she wasn't going to take it so well. This book makes you do a double take and think twice on how seriously being gay affects people in our own families. And I NEED to, and WANT to, read the sequel. I read somewhere that you're writing for a MAJOR urban publisher now, but I hope you continue this story too. Don't leave us hanging for too long!!

A girl comes of age and acknowledges her sexuality in Toy Styles' debut novel, Rainbow Heart: You Have No Control Over What The Heart Decides. This saga stars Evelyn Kelly, and her quest to love herself enough to be who she is.
At the novel's start, Evelyn is 13 years old. Her world revolves around her crew that includes younger sister Tammy and friends Kiesha, Tiffany, and May. The girls share their lives and troubles at home, always leaning on each other for support. As the fivesome grow up in their Washington, D. C. neighborhood, they each have trials of their own. Sisters Kiesha and Tiffany live with a crackhead mother, while May endures sexually abusive father. Evelyn and Tammy have the best home life, being raised by their overbearing but loving mother. But as close as the girls are, Evelyn has always felt different. Evelyn's not quite like the other girls, with their crushes on boys. This is evident from the first chapter as her sister teases her constantly about not having a boyfriend. She's never had one, and doesn't want one. She's only comfortable around her girlfriends, especially May. The two share a special bond that no one, even jealous sister Tammy can break. Evelyn adores May, and they have this special connection. Although she doesn't know what it is, Evelyn feels a deeper love for her that she can't explain. Things turn sad for them, though, when Evelyn has to move from D. C. to Texas They lose touch after a while, and she is simply heartbroken. She never stops thinking about her, even when the story fast forwards 10 years later. At 23, Evelyn is seriously dating Antwan, or at least Antwan is serious about her. Evelyn's not so sure she's in love. She feels something isn't right between them. Antwan doesn't have a clue as he's ready to propose marriage. By this time, Evelyn has a new best friend and roommate, Six, who's gay. She confesses this to her, and the two enter a secret relationship. This is enough for Evelyn to know she's gay - and that she has to break it off with Antwan. All in all, Rainbow Heart is a novel that keeps your attention. Toy Styles is a great storyteller, but the grammatical errors do take away from the story. But that aside, you will want to know what happens next-and to see exactly where Evelyn's heart takes her.

I'm Sorry but I have to be honest...,

Rainbow Heart is horrible, I'm not sure what everyone else read but what i read made my head hurt. The way the novel is written is atrocious, the grammar made me want to pull my hair out. There is little to no transition used, its choppy and has no flow to it what so ever. It wasn't possible for me to connect with any of the characters because of how underdeveloped they where. The entire book comes off like a creative writing project of a 9th grader. I'm sorry I've never ever found the need to write a negative review before but this book blew me. I literally had to force myself to read it, it took me over 2 weeks because I hated it so much. If you can get pass the English and the lack of development the plot is decent but thats the only positive I can give.

I was so excited when I picked this book up! The title alone and the pretty cover made me grab it, but once I opened it up and read the story, I was more impressed. This story mirrored what I went through growing up but never heard about in ANY other stories I ever read. I was elated to finally read a story similar to mine and I can't wait for the author to put out the second part. Thank you!!!!

I'm Not A Writer~~~,

This was a book that has changed my life. I love Ms. Styles because she showed me through this book that what I went through, when I was younger, was not isolated to just me. The characters were real. As real as the things I went through. I'm smiling now just knowing I wasn't alone. I'm not a writer, but I am a reader. And I ADORED this book. P.S. I hope you take advice, please repair the relationship between Evelyn and her mother. Evelyn can't make it without her. I just know it!!
