We got these for our 1st grader. She absolutely loves them. The stories are simple and predictable but expected for this age group. My daughter has to read 30 minutes a day for school and had complained a lot about it. When we got her these, she read them eagerly. Buying the books one by one is a bit expensive as the books are small. Each book is really like a chapter in a real book (so you don't really want to read them out of order or not get all of them as they won't get to find out the ending...even though they kind of go over the premise of the story in each book). But getting the collection books makes it a lot more economical. I wish they had collections for all their books.

These are great for beginning chapter books. The content is innocent enough for younger readers who are at an advanced reading level. My daughter finished the A to Z Mystery series and needed something else. Although these are easier than the A to Z, she still loved them.

This collection is a great introduction to the Rainbow Magic series. I have read these aloud to my daughter since she was in kindergarten, and she still loves them in first grade. The content is very innocent, not too scary and not too intellectually stimulating. Every Rainbow Magic story follows the same, very predictable pattern, which is quite dull for adults, but really appeals to my daughter. I like these books because they make her excited about reading. She can't get enough of them, which is why I think an anthology like this is a great idea!
