Nice, but some flaws, somewhat overpriced,
By Laura B. (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rainbow Magic: Fairy Fashion Dress-up Book (Paperback)
This is a nicely rendered set of dolls, but there are some flaws, and it is overpriced for its content. There are six fairy dolls (of various skin tones), and 14 double sided outfits (so 28 outfit choices). There are also 16 accessories, (boas, purses), but they are not double sided, so the cover is wrong when it claims there are 60 outfits and accessories. There are actually 28 different outfits + 16 accessories = 44 items. There are only six pages (12 if you count both sides) to this book and one page, front and back, is used on an introduction. It seems pretty wasteful given the limited number of pages. It's still a good selection of nicely illustrated clothing and accessories, though.
The outfits are cute designs a little girl would like, and the dolls and outfits are punch-outs printed on nice quality cardstock. The outfits fit all of the dolls (which is really nice because you can interchange outfits freely). However, because they are double sided, the tabs are bent in two directions, which means they wear easily. I'm not sure how many times they can be used before they tear. Also, the worn tabs make the outfits look less attractive (but its a small detail your little girl may not mind). I sometimes stick the outfits on my paper dolls with double sided tape and stickies because it's much easier and less frustrating than tabs. Also, everything punches out, so it's perforated. This is good for convenience, but it creates a problem due to the size of the dolls. The perforation never lines up exactly with the illustration, so it's always cuts something off. And because everything is so small, you end up with dolls with half of their arms or hands chopped off. Or funny looking chins and hair. The dog in my book also happened to get his ear and neck chopped off. Again, this is a detail your child might not mind, but it is a flaw to consider, especially if you're getting the book online, and you don't see the accuracy of the perforation, which will vary from book to book. So all-in-all, I think this is a cute set of paper dolls a little girl would enjoy playing with. The list price is not high, but it is somewhat overpriced if you consider its small amount of content and its functional flaws.

Cute but falling apart,
This review is from: Rainbow Magic: Fairy Fashion Dress-up Book (Paperback)
My daughter received this two days ago and absolutely loves it. The illustrations are cute and already perforated, so set-up is easy. However, as noted in another review, the outfits are double-sided, which doesn't make much sense for paper dolls - our tabs are already wearing out, and the tabs aren't long enough to hold the clothes on also. Also, the dolls started falling apart the day we got them out because the card stock is not thick enough to tolerate much wear. So plan on reinforcing them with tape and popsicle sticks or what-not. All of the flaws aside, though, my daughter loves it and doesn't mind all of the repairs. I would recommend this as long as you are prepared for improvised use and repairs. (-=

unseen by buyer,
This review is from: Rainbow Magic: Fairy Fashion Dress-up Book (Paperback)
I didn't see the book but my grand-daughter loves it! It helped her to see what some of the other fairy books are and what the fairies look like since I read them long distance, then mail them to her.
