I bought the Persian Mahogany hair color and my hair is naturally dirty blonde and medium length. I use half or 2 oz of powder with 1 cup of hot tea, 1 egg and 1 Tb olive oil. I kept the mix in my hair for 4 hours. Don't forget to oil your hair line to prevent staining! The color turns out gorgeous EVERY time! I get compliments constantly asking if it's natural. I'd HIGHLY recommend to others that have dry damaged hair!

I had been dying my hair by both boxed dyes and going to the salon and shelling out $100 to try to cover up my grays. A friend told me about Rainbow Henna and that she loves it. I figured, for $7 what do I have to lose? I ordered it, and applicator brushes, not realizing how thick the henna paste is. It's not like normal liquid dye where it's runny. In fact, it's pretty thick and can be applied via hand (using a glove of course to keep from staining your hands). I had read the recommendations to leave it in longer than the time listed on the bottle. So, after dinner, I lined my hair line and ears with petroleum jelly (to keep from staining) and had my husband (he's such a trooper) put the die in my hair. I wrapped it up in plastic wrap and to help secure my hair better, I put on one of my wrap around cloth headbands to keep my hair from falling out of the bottom. I initially planned to only leave it in for 3 hours but my grays are stubborn and I decided to sleep with it in. Needless to say, I only made it for about 7 hours before I woke up in the middle of the night and rinsed it out and went back to bed. When brushed my hair the next morning my scalp was tender that first day when brushing it out, as if I had a sun burn but by the end of the day it was fine. Even so, the ending result is gorgeous! I went with a color that was true to my natural color and it not only made my hair shiny but it turned those stubborn grays to a gorgeous golden hue. I got compliments at work about how great my hair looked that day. Just a couple of things I want to point out.

You're hair will smell for a few days after application. Because I used coffee with my dye, my head smells like a mix between grass and coffee. Not gag worthy but not the most appealing smell.

Folks I have been using this stuff for years and it is amazing it colors hair completly leaving it looking like natural color, you can also dye your eyebrows with it plus it leaves hair shiny thicker and conditions it as well, that beats the hell out of all the damage peroxide and chemical dyes cause, you'll get a ton of compliments to. I find mixing it with hot works best the heat seems to make it work better. Putting baby oil, vaseline, or cocoa butter around the hairline to prevent staining skin works great. I used the Persian Black henna

Despite claims that henna cannot be used on chemichally treated wrong, it can also be safely used on previously chemically dyed, bleached, straightened, and permed hair. as well as natural white hair, my friend has white hair we did an experiment with the Persian Black left it on for a couple of hours, results jet black hair. Another friend had bleached hair that was also burned on the ends from bleaching after henna treatment her hair came out a beautiful red shiny well conditioned softer and thicker

I do suggest do not henna before perming or straightening because the chemicals can turn the henna coloring green, after perming or straightening hair wait a couple of days or more before using henna, because hair needs to rest and build up it's own natural oils. [ Benefits ] after use hair is not only shiny and better conditioned but also thicker and also grows better to

Persian Black ingredients listed on the label on my jar

1-Henna aka Lowsonia imiris.

I didn't buy this via amazon, but I wanted to post this review for the product anyway because I AM IN LOVE!!!

Background: My natural color is dark brown with some auburn highlights here and there. I had used an over-the-counter highlighting kit to bleach my hair (I used several, doing it again every 2 weeks in the areas that I missed the time before to attempt to go blonde. It did work well, by the way). I was tired of the upkeep of bleaching my hair and decided to go back to a red color (I used to use over-the-counter dye to get my hair to a dark auburn and always enjoyed that color against my ruddy-ish skin).

I was afraid of what henna would do to my bleached out hair, but after reading several reviews saying it would be fine, I crossed my fingers and took the plunge. I used regular hot tea for the liquid, adding in about a tablespoonful of olive oil (maybe a bit less) and a couple teaspoons of apple cider vinegar. I mixed it until it was a sort of wet pudding consistency (wet enough to spread, but not runny). I used vaseline around my hairline and on my ears to avoid staining, and used baby wipes if I managed to get some on my skin. It was a little wonky to get into all of the areas of my hair (I didn't section it very well - note to self for next time).

I wrapped it in seran wrap and then slipped on a shower cap and let it sit for about 80 minutes (out of paranoia that it would burn my bleached hair if I let it sit too long). The result is a very pleasing medium brown base with lots of auburn throughout, sprinkled with copper and dark blonde highlights (presumably from the bleached hair underneath that either didn't get covered well enough, or just didn't have enough time to soak in the color).
