The Rainbow Train CD conducted my four-year old son into his first musical discoveries of the rainbow in a way that was fun, exciting and joyful. The songs have a beguiling simplicity that, upon repeated listenings (and with small children, you can bet you'll be traveling through this rainbow again and again and again)reveal more depth. Some are quite haunting in their simple and wise beauty. Really, this music is for the child in all of us. I dare you not to sing along!

And you will be, too, singing along with spirit, once you listen to the words and feel the happy rhythms! I thought I'd just enjoy it once or twice, but to my amazement I put it on all the time. It lights up the house with happiness, and there's warm reflective tunes as well. The poet in me says it's a celebration of being alive on the planet, and truly it's a child's discovery journey of everything from the seasons to the magic of planting a seed in the ground, to the wonder of discovering yourself. Children will love the train theme throughout (and maybe drive you nuts singing "Chugga Chugga Choo Choo,") but if you're an adult, you owe it to yourself to listen to "Born on a Mountain" or "Sparks." I've got shivers just remembering those haunting sounds.

Our 23 mo./old daughter is in love with this cd. She demands "more choo-choo" all day long. Any time we are in the car she wants to hear every "Rainbow Train" song variation in succession. We recently took a four hour car trip and played this cd both ways constantly, with our finger on the skip button in order to quickly go to the next "Rainbow Train" song. Our daughter also loves "Po Po Pi Pi". The cd has sparked her fascination with trains. If she could listen to this cd all day long while playing with trains, she'd be content. The music is very uplifting, soothing, and just plain fun. The singing is gentle yet inspired, the musicianship is top-notch, and the songs are fun and educational while avoiding the pitfall of being either plain stupid or too serious/"preachy". I think parents will enjoy listening to this music as well, even if it's over and over (and over and over and...). Give it a shot.
