My EOS camera's autofocus was working perfectly before I used it to program the adapter.

If your searching for an adapter that will fit your m42 lenses to your EOS body, forget this and just buy the fotodiox non-chip regular adapter.

They waste my time just to save the time to either read normal email or to keep a web form alive.

I purchased this to use with a manual lens (no automatic pin on the back). I prefer the type of adapter that does not push on the pin but in this case it was academic.

The adapter is relatively easy to program to report maximum lens aperture and focal length. I set mine to report f/4.5 and 500mm. Oddly, the chip reports "f/4.6". There's no way for the user to screw this up - it's hard-coded on the chip. So the chip must have a problem or be programmed incorrectly.

The focus assist does work, and the reporting of focal length is correct.

So this adapter/focus assist chip works OK, just too bad about the programming error.

The one I received was chrome not black.

Have had this adapter for 4 months, and it works perfectly with the Takumar 1.4/50mm lens to a Canon T2i. About to buy another one. Even comes with instructions :)

This adapter BROKE MY EOS CAMERA. IT NO LONGER WORKS. YOU SHOULD NOT BUY THIS ADAPTER FOR ANY REASON. I contacted the company to help me with the problem. They sent me one email that said sorry. THAT'S IT. I have contacted them several times to ask them to help me with a solution but they will not answer my emails. It has been weeks and still they refuse to help me or offer any suggestions.

I bought the Rainbow Imaging programmable chip adapter M42-EOS. The focus was completely wrong when I first put it on the camera. I programmed the chip using my EOS camera as instructed on their website. When I finished programming the chip the focus confirmation was still very wrong just like it was before I started.

NOT ONLY WAS THE FOCUS WRONG BUT MY CAMERA'S AUTOFOCUS DOESN'T WORK NOW. All of my Canon EF lenses focus correctly on my OTHER cameras but the EOS camera I used to program the adapter WILL NOT AUTOFOCUS anymore. I have updated the firmware, cleaned the contacts with erasers, reset all settings to factory settings manually, removed all batteries including the button battery for date and time parameters, etc. I have done everything I can and the camera still will not work. I can't tell you how pissed I am that this Rainbow Imaging adapter BROKE my camera's autofocus function. My EOS camera's autofocus was working perfectly before I used it to program the adapter. I CAN'T SAY THIS STRONGLY ENOUGH. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS ADAPTER OR YOUR CAMERA MAY NEVER AUTOFOCUS EF LENSES AGAIN.

I bought this one to use an older Super Takumar with a Canon Rebel XT. It seems to work correctly, although I have not done any formal focus testing. It allows you to adjust the microfocusing parameters for the adapter, which is a great plus.

My only -minor- issue is that the adapter doesn't feel as tight as a regular lens. It may be the camera, although I doubt it since the lenses feel tight. It's probably not enough to affect the optical axis of the lens, but just a little annoying.

The autofocus does work as advertised but the focus points just barely flash so you have to pay attention and work quick. It will accept programming to enter the correct focal length, lens diameter etc. but it is difficult to program. It would be easier if you could blue tooth to it from a PC or basically any other option. Note, M42 and T adapters are a slightly different thread.
