This ingenious device is sold under the JJC, Lensmate and Rainbow Imaging name. It's the same cap from all three so buy on price. The cap screws onto the threads around the lens, so it only takes a few seconds to attach. Once attached, it's very secure on the camera and the open blades don't intrude into the picture. I found the standard Olympus lens cap, which tethers to the camera, quite annoying when taking pictures. It always seemed to be blowing around and getting in the way. In the short time I've been using the auto lens cap it has worked as advertised without any problems. However, the cap adds a half-inch to the front of the lens, so the camera does lose a bit of its compactness, but I'm still able to fit it in the cargo pockets of my pants. Also, I'd be disinclined to use a shoulder strap on the XZ when using the auto cap; the three hinges around the front of the cap would likely snag on clothing and anything else the camera brushes against while hanging from the shoulder.

The cover itself is too thick to allow usage of any of the standard xz-1 leather cases, and the build quality is poor at best. If you're mechanically inclined, you can tweak the retaining pins at the hinges and use a soldering iron to seal the entrance holes so the pins don't fall out. Or you can spend the extra $10 and get the Olympus version that actually works and still fits inside the standard xz-1 cases. I have them both--don't waste your money on this POS.

If you used your XZ-1 long enough, then you are familiar with the annoyance caused by the lens cap. To summarize it:
- original cap is lose, and it sometimes doesn't stay
- you want to leave the cap off in case you want to catch a good random shot
- or you just don't want to deal with a lens cap

Either case, your lens is exposed to dust, water, and other potential dangers.

This accessory will always cover the lens when the camera is off. It's a simple spring-powered 3-blade cover that will attach to the camera's lens accessory thread. Lens come out, pushes the blades. Lens goes back, springs close the blades. You just focus on your photography, and deal with the power button only instead of the lens cap. One of the 2 best accessories I ever bought for my XZ-1 (other one is the Gorillapod)

Olympus XZ-1 is a terrific camera with 1 annoying flaw: a manual lens cap. The RainbowImaging Auto Lens Cap mounted and fit correctly. Since I installed it last summer, it has worked exactly as intended - like it was built in. Its only downside is that it increases the camera's depth so that it requires a slightly deeper pocket (or case) to carry. Unless you are one of the few for whom that is a deal breaker, this is a mandatory option.

This lens cap works great on my Olympus XZ-1. It is bulky for sure, but I knew that when getting it, so can't ding it for that. It really is a cool invention. Highly recommend.

Currently, this lens cap is about half of what I paid for it. I think it's a great deal now. The construction is sturdy enough for my purposes. I was looking for something to protect the lens from minor damage while not getting in my way.

For the price you can't beat the protection it gives. The hinges stick out so the camera will not fit my case so it has to be removed. I now use this as a backup after buying the Olympus screw on cap which fits better.

Works ok. It appears made from the cheapest material, and looks as though it won't last...yet it does do a decent job. I would recommend it.

Excellent product. Mounts easily and inexpensive way to protect lens without using traditional lens caps that have to be attached or put in your pocket. Highly recommend.

I actually have not been using this cap much. It adds about 1 cm to the lens barrel and makes the whole camera bulkier and difficult to fit in a small camera bag.

Other than this works as advertised.
