5.0 out of 5 stars Yes folks, it is 80's,but still good.
I never quite get people. I mean, what do you want? 'Album is dated,' 'Saddled with mid-eighties sounds.' Please people, get a clue! This album was recoded in mid-eighties and most albums from that time are riddled with synthed sounds, just like TV shows of that time are riddled with big hair and shoulder pads. Just like albums in the late nineties and early 00's are...

3.0 out of 5 stars What is the date?
Moyet's voice is as sharp and innate as ever: However the sounds here are a bit dated. The production is the problem, not the material. There is a sense that the production team was trying a Jolley/Swain v/s Yazoo thing here. It doesn't work on every track. Had this album been acapella, I would have fainted, I know. "Blow Wind Blow" is simplistic and stands the...

Just like albums in the late nineties and early 00's are riddled with 'unplugged' and today's albums will be faulted as being 'too dry and bassey' in their sound. But they sell for their time and, hopefully, stay alive. Moyet's vocals are as great as ever in this as in any of her albums. Her dissatisfaction with the album may stem from her well known own insecurities as an artist. And what artist doesn't have such? The best always do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of my collection, August 27, 1999
This review is from: Raindancing (Audio CD)
Too many five star reviews in here. But this one is really deserved. Alison Moyet has a rich and sultry voice which is not dimished by too much playing nor does her voice breed contempt through familiarity like every other female vocalist I can think of. This CD is a slice of my life and has seen me through more relationships and life changes than anything else I have in this existence.

In my dreams, Alison sings me to sleep. I'd give this one more stars if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars Man, what a time..., September 19, 2005
This review is from: Raindancing (Audio CD)
Watch out--talk about the ability to hook your emotions to the current events in your life...

Far better than "Alf"...

Strong ALL the way through...

Don't be driving or alone with ANY member of the opposite sex for "sleep like breathing"

I think her music really suffers from CD to mp3...

Out of the three albums of hers that i've heard all the way, this is BY FAR the best.

After reading a few negative reviews of Alison Moyet's Raindancing, I had to put in a review for myself. Got the album as a birthday present back in 1987. I loved the song Is This Love?. Didn't know too much about Alison back then. I knew she had an album called Alf released, but didn't hear too many songs from it except for Invisible. I thoroughy enjoyed Raindancing, and continue to listen to it to this day! I know Alison feels it doesn't represent her as an artist. She felt she got stuck with producer Jimmy Iovine to do the recording, but I did read an interview that she enjoyed making Raindancing more than she did Alf. Apparently, Swain and Jolley were pretty much dictators in the studio. Does it have a dated feel to it? Yeah, maybe a little-so do the Human League (who I love also). So what? Name an artist from the last 30 years who doesn't sound dated. All the music today sounds over processed and overproduced. Why should Raindancing have vocals where she sounds like an android? And over repetitive synthesizer lines? Raindancing is what it is. A beautifully produced pop album with an incredibly soulful voice that predates Adele. For me, there isn't a dud on it. Whenever anybody listens to an artist's recording, you will get a room full of people with totally different opinions about what works and what doesn't. That is the universal language of music. No one is going to completely agree about a released recording-just read the differing opinions from respected, published music critics. But I love Alison and every recording she has done. Even the more experimental follow up, Hoodoo.

I love the ballads mostly. Shout out to Patti Austin who recorded her "Honey For The Bees" on her Gettin' Away With Murder album.

"Blow Wind Blow" is simplistic and stands the test of time wonderfully. Bottom line - the tracks are dated. Moyet has stated that she didn't enjoy making this album, although she couldn't offer any specifics: I think I've found the specific - no truth to her craft.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not her best, October 14, 2001

Although it does contain some good tracks, this is one of those albums you wonder what could have been.If you are not a Alison Moyet fan than i say skip it.You can get the best parts of this cd of Singles. This album suffers from bad son writing.Alison went from New Wave (or something like it) to pop.I think they really were just trying to break out in the states. Also this is pretty much a reproduction of ALF.Of course no one could ever capture the magic that was on Alf.
