Three of these songs are excellent Roots Reggae songs!!!! Kpangolo, Promised Land and African Unity are 3 of Majek's best ever songs!! The others are listenable and overall this CD is pretty good. Hey Joe and Hotel California are 2 classic rock remakes that are interesting.

I remember purchasing "Spirit of Love" back in the 90's and making a point to monitor everything that Fashek does. He is every bit an African musician, but has been heavily influenced by Bob Marley and brings an American edge to some of the numbers as well (perhaps the producing by Miami Steve Van Zandt on Spirit of Love rubbed off a bit). If you like westernized African music or a classic reggae album with a bit more variety than you are used to, then this is a great album. This ranks right up there with the best of Majek Fashek, IMO.

Simply Heavy,

Coming from a 'non-Jamaican' this work can only be described as heavy roots rock reggae in its finest form. The organization of the percussion gives life to the message conveyed by songs like 'African Unity' et al. This is Majek at his best- his ability to exploit the potential of music to evoke strong emotions is widely employed in this great album. Even his rendition of classics like the Eagles' 'Hotel California' and Hendrix's 'Hey Joe' succumb to his originality. This is no doubt a great album and a worthy attestation to the musical abilities of the reggae talent from Nigeria, West Africa.
