To be honest, this band looks creepy. They are definitely one of my favorite bands, but they can creep me out. For the longest time, I wouldn't get their self-titled album because the cover art turned me off. If I'd known what I was missing, I wouldn't have waited a second.
Their sound is an odd mix between cliche and totally unique. Some would disagree and label it one or the other, but I find elements of familiarity and originality in both albums. The earlier cd was an excellent one for sure, but lacking in diversity. If you are hesitant to check Children 18:3 out because you fear a repeat, you don't have anything to worry about.
"Rain's a Comin'" has variation from song to song and even within tracks. Sure, they maintain that punk-rock sound for most of it, but it's as if this is a "best of" album with songs from different stages of the band's career. What helps is that the duo of brother and sister vocalists often trade off the lead, giving us even more fresh sounds.
Listening to this album is an adventure with something new at every turn. I could (and do) listen to it over and over.

Track summaries:
Rain's A Comin' is a shorter song that builds up to the energy level that is always present throughout the album.
Cover Your Eyes is a crazy musical ride with driving guitars and a quick beat. If your heart isn't pumping by the end, you have it turned down waaaay too much.
Cruel One also is pretty high energy with references to 101 Dalmations. The lyrics these guys write make their songs so interesting. It starts to get lighter after this.
Whispering is an instrumental track that gives you a bit of a cool-down from the intensity. This next section doesn't have an extreme tempo, but still maintains energy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock n Roll with heart and soul July 7, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'd heard a lot of hype about this group before they'd released anything. When their first album came out, I sampled it and declined to buy it. It just didn't grab me. THIS album changed that. It rocks (wow does it ever!) but the songs actually have hooks. I'm not normally into punk music but this is a very good album. The guitar solos are pretty spectacular too. Highly recommended if you like tuneful music that can rock your face off too.

This is a fantastic edition to the Children 18:3 discography. Insane guitar riffs, challenging drum beats, and a bassist who is pure talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very strong sophmore album! October 19, 2011

Children's first album is my absolute favorite album of all time. I was scared that this album would be a letdown in many different ways. Thankfully, I was so wrong. This album is absolutely amazing. It goes by way too fast, and leaves you wanting more - which is a good thing. So many stand out tracks - my personal fave being "Oh Bravo" - if you liked the first album, you'll love this one as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars If by rain they mean awesome! August 16, 2010

This album has awesome written all over it! The band has really grown on this album, the lyrics and music have evolved from their first album, maintaining the integrity and quality of their sound while exploring new creative spaces. Several tracks jump out as stand-alone singles: Oh Bravo, Rain's A Comin', and Lost So Long. I highly recommend this album, especially if you were a fan of their self-titled.

4.0 out of 5 stars a storm called Children18:3 July 31, 2010

I've been a collector and follower of Christian music for some time now, and i've always managed to make sure to peak at the up and coming/underground bands. Yet SOMEHOW this band sneaked past me. I had heard their name on occasion but never checked em out for myself. Not even giving them a chance. then while doin some Amazon-ing, this album Rains a comin was recommended, and i figured its worth a shot...HOW CLOSE i came to missing this fantastic, passionate sibling trio! from the opening western twanged' Title track with its blasting riffs to the Cruel One which showcases Seths ASTOUNDING drumming to Oh Bravo fronted by Lee Marie, this album def tries to expand and try new things, and unlike some bands SUCCEEDs. You see a great musical aspect in that each member gets their 'share' of spotlight between drum solos, guitar solos and vocals ie Oh Bravo. However Children proves they arent just a hardrock riffing cookie cutting band with a moving acoustic driven track in Oh Honestly! Lyrically they venture out into many man vs self songs but never dulling in creativity, in fact there's a scent of almost concept album. It just goes on to prove their creativity in lyrics as well as music. and they do it without sacrificing singing TRUTH. The ONLY reason this album is not a full 5 (in fact i give in a 4 1/2) is it has 3 just "filler" tracks, now for an album this length, ONE would suffice. They are good songs, dont get me wrong,,just kind of tedious. But overall,an album with everything a rock album craves and done well in every area! this band is pushing the right buttons and pulling the right strings. I look forward to watchin them just GROW and mature in the next years to come. 4 1/2 stars!
