Why did a buy this? First of all, just turn on the faucets in my home and your smell chlorine, the odor is extremely strong in our city water.

I have been looking for a filter for years for my shower, but honestly, I never knew what one to buy. This one was recommended by a Board-Certified Naturopath and Clinical Nutritionist. I read on their company website that Rainshow'r is one of the pioneers of shower filters, they have been making them for 20 years years... So I figured they must be pretty good. One thing you have to love about these filters is they are made in the United States, by Americans... Sadly, it is rare to see anything made in the USA today. It is nice to know by buying one of these your supporting American jobs and the national economy.

Here is my story:

I have been a swimmer for over 26 years. My skin has lived in chlorinated water for a very long time, it normally is always dry and my skin is often red. However, I really never realized how bad it was for a person to take a hot shower in a small room with the door closed, until taking a lot of science classes in school. Your standing in the hot shower and filling the room with hot poisonous gas, which in no way is good for humans. Then, while your taking a shower, your pores are open and exposed to all this nasty stuff, which is now getting into your skin. Of course, don't forget either, your skin is your largest organ. The integumentary system (skin, hair, nails, sweat glands) is one of the first lines of defense and anything that is in the water is going to effect all of these areas.

Now, lets get this straight. Chlorine is used in water to kill all the nasty stuff in swimming pools and city water. This might be a good thing, but it is not something that should stay in the water.

I am really sensitive to chlorine and they sure pour it in around here. This filter not only removed the chlorine odor, I no longer have any irritation anywhere on my body. I used to dread the end of the month when they dumped the chlorine into the water, but no more! Worth the money and very effective.

I've been using this filter for about 5 years now, and can say without hesitation that IT WORKS. Before using the filter, my skin would be itchy and prone to rashes. After using the filter, no more itchiness or rashes. What more is there to say. :) The filter removes chlorine from your shower water, which apparently is what was causing my shower related skin problems. I've also had two of my female friends try this product. Both had dry itchy skin before using it, and the filter fixed that for both of them.

I also tried the Paragon Shower Filter from Home Depot, and absolutely hated that one compared with this Rainshow'r filter. It caused a fishy smell in my water, and didn't seem to help the itchiness very much. So I switched back to this rainshow'r filter, and will never go back.

Being a single guy, I only replace the filter once a year. So for $20/year, this is definitely one of the best health-related purchases I have ever made.

Easy to install, and to replace cartridge annually.
Water feels invigorating, too!

I have been using the Rainshow'r product for almost 10 years now, changing out the filter once a year--and I can tell when it is time to replace the cartridge, my curly hair starts to become more unruly! I even installed one at a boyfriend's house because prolonged visits resulted in diminished manageability of my hair. Same for long vacations.

This really speaks to how damaging chlorine is to hair. It's also nice to not be breathing in chlorine fumes during a shower!!

Highly recommend for people with chemical sensitives or naturally curly hair! You just won't believe the difference--even my hairdresser could tell!!

We have a lot of chemicals in our water and it often smells like chlorine especially in the mornings. My hair and skin were very dry. After spending a couple weeks in Thailand and my skin and hair were so soft from the water there I decided it was time to get a filter for my shower at home. The chlorine smell is gone and my skin and hair feel better. I have long hair and it's much easier to brush out after showering since using the Rainshow'r filter. The only complaint is the water pressure is a lot harder than it was with my standard shower head and doesn't seem like it could be adjusted.

I'm giving this a 2 star as I can't tell any difference on my skin or hair that this filter is doing a darn thing. It definitely leaks around the center seam, but not so much that it affects the flow to the shower head. Just not real impressed whatsoever by this filter. I would look to another brand next time around if I decide to purchase another.

I have used this product for about 5 years. I always know when the filter is running out because the chlorine starts aggravating my eyes again. I replace it about once a year - we are light on water use. I get them on the company website though cause if you buy 4 they give you a deal.

The model I received (CQ-1000NH) is copper based, which is fine, but after cleaning and first use the filter housing is littered with flakes of copper. I'm not sure which is worse, flakes of copper in my water or chlorine.
