Surprisingly good album,
This review is from: Raintown (Audio CD)
This is a British pop band, with a rock feel to it, and a string of hits in the 80s and early 90s. At least in this part of the world tracks like "Loaded", "When Will You (Make My Telephone Ring)", "Chocolate Girl", and most of all "Dignity" made the charts, and deservedly so. The lyrics are intelligent, the vocals expressive, and the sound original and not overproduced. This is definitely worth the money. If you are new to Deacon Blue, then this is definitely the place to start. Alternatively, get their greatest hits collection. Also see if you can find an earlier album called "When The World Knows Your Name" - not as good as this album, but worthwhile nonetheless.

I saw them in concert many years ago, it was their first tour. The stage was very simple with few lights, they were dressed as normal people. They were maybe 500 people, every single one(including myself)was singing the tunes. It may sound naive but it was beautiful to see the band's face and their astonished look. That concert and this record has been in my heart since then, songs like "dignity" are part of my deepest love for music and the people that do that with passion. Get this record, relax on a sofa and listen, it will feed your soul and warm your coldest moment.

All time great,

This one crept up on me, but it's pretty much indispensible now. "Chocolate Girl" is clever, witty (just enough to count, not enough to be cloying), songs like "Dignity" and "Raintown" just resonate, and "He looks like Spencer Tracy now" almost makes me cry, for all sorts of reasons.Buy this album.
